Please come and help us celebrate Maria's life and songs on

SUNDAY 15TH JULY 2.30 TO 10.30pm at
GLYNDE VILLAGE HALL/READING ROOM, GLYNDE Nr LEWES, EAST SUSSEX BN8 6JT.

Glynde is about 4 miles east of Lewes, just north of the A27.
The hall is between the main road and the Trevor Arms or about 4 minutes walk from the station, turn right, cross the bridge and pass the pub.

During the afternoon there will be an informal session of tunes, general songs and an opportunity to share any memories you have of Maria. Also in the afternoon a chance to take part in a circle dance to one of her songs.

This will be followed by tea, cakes and sandwiches. Tea and coffee provided. Please bring a plate of cakes or sandwiches to share.

No alcoholic drinks will be sold on the premises so feel free to bring your own.

In the evening there will be more tunes and we would like as many people to sing Maria's songs as possible. We may include the tunes to Maria's songs to be played for the sake of the tune as well as singing them.

We hope this day will bring together everyone who knew Maria and will remind us of fond memories we've had in her company.

What a fabulous idea, and sorry it's not possible for me to make it down, but you can rest assured that I'll be putting one of her songs -or maybe two - into my set at the festival where I'm performing that day.

Just a suggestion: would it be an idea to post a list of the songs already chosen, and who the singers are, to help people decide which ones to do? We could add it to the Facebook event as well.

There's not many songs left now that haven't been allocated (of the ones Maria wrote and recorded). I'll list them here and on Facebook tomorrow.

Of course there's many gems that she wrote that never were recorded.

In an interview with EFDS in 1997 Maria admitted to having written 50 songs...there must be many out there unrecorded

Maria also recorded a few trad songs which she put her own tune/arrangement these are

We're hoping that people will also sing songs of the type Maria enjoyed...those of nature/characters/events/humorous

I've put my name down for The Healer and The Hat in the Road, but if anyone else is anxious to do them I'm happy to step back as Bryan and I are doing Maria's round Whitehawk as an instrumental anyway.

Let's make an effort to keep Maria's songs alive. She wanted them to be matured by the folk process; it's the least we can do.
