We bring bikes! One or two hairy trips late at night but otherwise fine. Lots of taxis/minibuses this year, as far as I could see.

It's a fair distance between the centre of Miltown Malby and Spanish Point. I wonder are the festival organisers (or anyone else)running shuttle buses now?

Spent the week nursing an almighty head cold which limited my singing more than somewhat... Made a few visits to the new, Golf Club venue - very conveniently close to the house we rent each year.

As a late night venue for a large crowd it was a great improvement on Marrinan's. The square layout with good sightlines made it much easier to manage and easier for performers to project.

The downside was the loss of the interactive intimacy of Marrinan's during the quieter times of the day when a group of singers and enthusiasts fed songs into the melting pot, consciously or subconsciously adjusting the mix as they went along... An attempt to run a small daytime session in Miltown during the week failed on foot of a (very) unsuitable venue!

Our best wishes to Jim and Noreen, our erstwhile hosts in Marrinan's.

You are wide awake Framus.Bye the way , are there many of those instruments still in use out there? .I have a 1963 5 string Framus my self ,in pristine condition & great to play.Is there a vintage Framus club in existence ?

I am doing the annual archival photoshoot of all performers at the offical events in the Hall (can't stretch myself to cover the new recitals in the marquee as well I am afraid).

I add new material as the week goes along, at time of posting events up to and including Wednesday are covered.

Maidenhead Folk Club has had a series of 'Willy' nights over the last several years featuring songs that refer to 'Willy' in what ever form you wish - Good Fun !

Indeed, Nigel - and I reckon most of 'em will have been well aired in Miltown Malbay over the years! The great thing is that they're well mixed in with a truly vast range of unaccompanied tradtional songs in English, Irish and a scatter of other languages.

News for those planning on going to the Willy Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, starting July 8: Marrinan's Bar, for long the home of the unaccompanied singing session, has closed! Sessions will now be held in Spanish Point Golf Club, starting around 1 p.m. each day. Remains to be seen how it works out - it's the thought of the pullovers that worries me!
