My good friend and band mate Ian Chisholm - the one who makes my guitars - agreed with me some months ago that batteries in little bags velcro'ed to the inside of an acoustic/electric guitar are a pain in the neck. When you want to change them quickly, it often involves loosening all the strings to get the bag out, etc., and Ian's not keen on cutting away a square out of the guitar side to accommodate a battery/control unit. Anyway, to cut a long story short, he's devised a neat way of getting the battery outside the guitar. This link to his blog explains it all: I hate internal batteries I'll let Ian explain it but, basically, he uses a stereo jack socket and jack to transmit the audio signal and the power from the external battery to the internal pre-amp and pickup. He demonstrated it on his new mandolin recently - and it sounded great. I'll get him to do the same for my Martin.
