I've tried it with IE, Firefox and Google Chrome - same on all of them

Have you tried using a different Web browser? I notice a distinct difference in sound quality between IE and Opera.

My laptop has recently developed a fault when playing music from the web such as YouTube etc. - the sound is distorted with lots of crackling. Happens on both the built-in speakers and plugged-in headphones. I first thought it might be the sound card, but it plays CDs OK.

Any ideas?
