This story played on National Public Radio's All Things Considered this evening, and as soon as the music started I sat up straight.

The story was about Sory Kandia Kouyate, of Guinea, West Africa, who died young at age 44 in 1977. A newly remastered 2-disc set has been released of his work.

What a voice! The last time I remember having such an immediate case of love-at-first-hearing about an artist I would have otherwise never heard of from the other side of the planet was when NPR played a story about Ali Farka Toure. (There have been others, but I didn't always buy the disc.)
