Subject: Rochester Acoustic Music Day (now past)
From: Richard Bridge
Date: 15 Jul 12 - 12:14 PM

I thought there had been a thread on this but it seems not.

Maximum respect to non-catter (in fact luddite) Derek Moore who has organised this event at the Good Intent Rochester UK for I think 3 years now.

The most recent was Sat 14 July and something like 30 acts from relative beginner solo players to hydra-headed groups with classically trained members (not that sort of member you smutty lot) and established folk performers (one at least already well-known in the 60s) did precisely timed 20 minute slots between noon and quarter past 11 at night. Some singers/players were under 20 years old.

Karen is still unwell but Dal at the Good Intent and his staff kept the perfectly served real ale flowing - and sold bar food. Round the corner the Shozna Indian restaurant was booked solid (and seems to have upped its game on its food too) and the Noble House Chinese takeaway round the other corner seemed to be busy as well.

Mostly the punters were well behaved (although a few who should have known better talked too loudly later in the day, mostly but not wholly due to enjoying the said perfectly served real ale a bit too well) and there was no electricity in sight (apart from one specially permitted quiet electric bass guitar).

Some great musical moments and by the end of the evening (No Worries topping the bill) a packed room was roaring its heart out on rowdy beer-laden chorus songs.

Magic.

Thanks Derek. Thanks Karen and Dal. Thanks Computacab for pouring us home without excessive cost at the end of the evening.

As an aside, I went to the GI, this lunchtime, to enjoy my usual Sunday pint, only to find that you greedy buggers had drunk tne lot. However, from the short time I spent there on Saturday, it seemed like a small price to pay. Well done derek.
