Foe anyone who is interested I have a cassette of the BBC programme that took Bob Copper to the U.S to meet and compare notes with Pete Seeger. I could probably get it onto a c.d. Essential listening.

Also ask the good folks at:

https://missingepisodes.proboards.com/board/1/missing-episodes-general-tv

They will likely be able to access databases such as TVBrain to see if the programme exists.

https://www.tvbrain.info/tv-archive?showname=aquarius&type=lostshow

You could also ask the good folk at Kaleidescope. This is the first port of call for 'missing' tv progs. - they have a huge archive donated by producers, tv companies, etc. The director is one Chris Perry.

And don't forget the really good 1971 Aquarius documentary, any copies of which are much duplicated and come from our own copy. This was made when budgets were somewhat larger than they are now and even provided the wherewithal for helicopter shots of Bob striding over the Downs...it's a proper period piece that also included an early folk night from The Central Club with guests Seamus Ennis and The Brighton Taverners. A young Vic Smith is much in evidence who went on to compere many subsequent nights right up until the demise of those memorable evenings. We have tried to trace the original, shot in 16mm I think but to no avail. It was a Humphrey Burton series I believe.

Its a shame that the 2004 documentary is not available on DVD...it's very well made.

Append your email address below ...

There are three major films:

1/ Coppersongs BBC doco. from 2004
2/ Arena from the Central Club at Peacehaven, from about 1980
3/ Barry Callaghan's film for EFDSS - VHS numbered copies

Only 1/ is extant in the public domain.

Good evening, I was hoping to find someone with a copy of the BBC documentary "Coppersongs" from 2004, or any other for that matter. I thought I had a digital recording but I've only the VHS it was taken from and can't get the old VHS deck from the loft to track correctly. Probably a bit much to ask, it having been there twelve years or so!
Kind regards,
Richard (Brecon)

Do you have the Arena one? Also the Copper Family Wiki entry doesn't list the t.v. progs or films. Maybe you could do a list please? Many thanks.

It appears that a number of old Arena programmes are getting uploaded to YouTube. This includes the Woody Guthrie programme aired by the BBC in 1988.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EnXnFgnkUc

This has reminded that Arena also did a programme about the Copper Family filmed in the early 1980s at their Central Club in Peacehaven, Sussex.

I do know that the Coppers themselves would love a copy of this programe. Does anyone have it?

Thanks - Chris B.
