Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: Elmore Date: 17 Jul 12 - 07:32 PM Mahogany Folk, you're a failure and an embarrassment. |
Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Jul 12 - 07:44 PM http://www.mahoganyfolk.com/ Not to my taste, but there it is. |
Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: Desert Dancer Date: 17 Jul 12 - 07:59 PM Guest,MahoganyFolk, you're certainly welcome to post a link to such a site here, and you don't even have to call it "BS" -- which around here means "off the topic of music". When you're making links, be sure to include the "http://" part of the url, otherwise the link-maker doesn't digest it properly. Here's the link directly to the blog (which can also be found via the main forum site link that Richard gave): http://mahoganyfolk.com/blog/. I see you're based in the northwest U.S.. Can you give us a little introduction to yourself and your goals for your site? ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: Steve Shaw Date: 17 Jul 12 - 08:28 PM Mahogany Folk? What use is a forum you can only post to on New Year's Eve? |
Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: Elmore Date: 17 Jul 12 - 08:37 PM We have a fine folk music forum. |
Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: GUEST,MahoganyFolk Date: 17 Jul 12 - 09:11 PM Thanks to everyone who checked out the forum! Also sorry about the broken link. If a moderator or someone could fix it that would be great, I don't see a spot to edit the post. Desert Dancer: Thanks for the reply, and I appreciate you letting me post a link on here. I just thought the BS category to be honest was the best fit.. I didn't want to post something that wasn't music in the music spot. I started MahoganyFolk.com to try and get a forum for some folk, indie, bluegrass music discussion. I couldn't find very many forums on the in the niche and thought.. hey! maybe this is the time! I also have a lot of experience with setting up online forums just kind of a hobby of mine. I'm more into folk rock but I'm really enjoying meeting new people especially on my board who know a lot more about some of the older stuff. GUEST,999: Thanks for taking a look! Big Al Whittle: Thanks for joining, feel free to contribute anything you think were missing. Steve Shaw: Not catching what you're getting at.. Thanks for the reply though. Elmore: Awesome! Found this site through a blog and thought it looked like it had some nice people! If you guys have any suggestions on how to make the forum better, PLEASE let me know.. it's a lot of work for just me but I'm doing the best I can to improve it! |
Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Jul 12 - 11:15 PM Well, from my point of view, stick rigidly to the 1954 definition! |
Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a folk music forum? From: artbrooks Date: 17 Jul 12 - 11:32 PM The 1954 definition is valid only in the UK...another way in which the semi-English speaking nations are different. |
Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: Big Al Whittle Date: 18 Jul 12 - 12:36 AM The 1954 definition is not valid in our house. |

Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: SteveMansfield Date: 18 Jul 12 - 05:37 AM On the second time of reading Steve Shaw's joke the penny dropped. Very good sir, have a small but genuinely appreciative round of applause. MahoganyFolk, good luck with it, not my end of the spectrum but nicely laid out and put together. |

Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 19 Jul 12 - 10:55 AM Steve's joke was a reference to the Scottish New Year's celebration called Hogmaney (sp?). It took me a while to get it. |
Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: GUEST,crazy little woman Date: 20 Jul 12 - 09:44 AM "If you guys have any suggestions on how to make the forum better, PLEASE let me know.. " I tried out your site. I suggest you not have so many subdivisions. The Mudcat has two basic subdivisions: music and non-music. That's about the right number. I used to contribute to the forum at Joannstores.com. We helped each other out with all kinds of questions. Then some turkey at the company decided, "Hey, hey, hey! We can't have this thing unless it's aimed at selling our stuff!" So they subdivided it into embroidery questions (sell floss), knitting questions (sell yarn), sewing questions (sell cloth). It made the site seem about as friendly as a trip to the Division of Motor Vehicles. It basically killed the forum. |
Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: GUEST Date: 20 Jul 12 - 01:43 PM crazy little woman, thanks for the feedback. I'll try and see if I can combine some of the sub forums. |

Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: mg Date: 25 Aug 12 - 02:23 AM it has some great features, like youtubes of the singers and songs. I do find it very busy with all the icons etc...I think I would make them smaller and maybe give people an option of a simplified screen..like take out some of the statistics on how many folk music points we get etc...it is nice but cluttery....mg |
Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: MahoganyFolk Date: 25 Aug 12 - 06:22 PM Thanks mg, I'll work on it tonight and see if I can't make it a little less cluttered. |
Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: GUEST Date: 06 Sep 12 - 02:00 AM Okay I did quite a bit of decluttering. Been great chatting with all of you! |
Subject: RE: Looking for a folk music forum? -MahoganyFolk- From: Big Al Whittle Date: 06 Sep 12 - 02:35 AM Thanks for the reminder! I'd forgotten about Mahogany doo dah. I have put it into favourites. I couldn't quite decide whether to classify myself as contemporary folk, or a timeless legend. I'll think about it. |
