Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: RTim Date: 26 Jul 12 - 10:27 AM Don't forget that the ex-folk singer George Deacon is a John Clare expert and his book is worth looking for. http://www.francisboutle.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=9 It is a pity George has given up singing - he is too busy sailing!! Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: JoeWass Date: 26 Jul 12 - 09:11 AM Well, I emailed him. Bad news I'm afraid. Sorry Jo but we haven't recorded that one yet. The lyric is from the poem by John Clare called, The Moors. Cheers, Chris Needless to say, I replied with an encouragement to record it! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: The Borchester Echo Date: 26 Jul 12 - 07:45 AM Chris Wood also recorded a CD with Hugh Lupton about John Clare called The Common Ground. Maybe what you are looking for is on that. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: JoeWass Date: 26 Jul 12 - 07:21 AM From looking around trying to find the song I'm aware that the album "Trespasser" is about enclosures. It's highly likely that the song's on it. However I'm afraid the song I'm after wasn't Mad John. I suppose I could buy the CD and just find out, but I'd rather know first. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: RTim Date: 24 Jul 12 - 06:53 PM John Clare was also the subject of a wonderful play called - The Fool, written Edward Bond. Clare spent many years in a lunatic asylum because he was seen by the powers that be as being Mad and against the Rule of Law, particularly about The Enclose Acts. The play is very very powerful. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: The Borchester Echo Date: 24 Jul 12 - 05:38 PM Sounds like Mad John recorded on Trespasser, a solo album from a few years ago about "enclosure" in one form or another. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: GUEST,Guest Vivienne Date: 24 Jul 12 - 04:48 PM I heard him doing this at St Chartier festival. He said it was a poem by John Clare if that helps at all. Vivienne |
Subject: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: GUEST,Joe Date: 24 Jul 12 - 03:33 PM I just heard Chris Wood and Andy Cutting doing their thing at a festival. One song which was particularly moving was about the enclosures. I'd love to know what it was. I vaguely remember something about animals squeezing through hedges and the following line: E G G , E G G , G G E D C C While ____, and ____, and ____ remain Another line ends: ... the enclosures came That's all I can remember. Can anyone help me identify the song? Google isn't being very helpful. Then again I'm not either, I can't remember much at all about the song. Thanks! Joe |
