Just came across an excellent docmentary on Sky Arts1 about the two Morris sides in Adderbury. Very moving and it went a long way to explain the importance of Morris to a small community both historically and spiritually. I think the title is 'The Way of Morris' and it's repeated today and tomorrow.

Previous (but not lengthy) thread on the film, and on the DVD release. Glad it's getting out over there, at least...

I watched it and was disappointed. The producer added a few too many layers to the story - there was not nearly enough morris dancing and the supposed tribute in places such as Thiepval was so cut about that it made little sense. Shame.

I watched some cambridge folk festival on Sky arts last night. They are doing a good job for folk. Also - they didn't keep flicking - here, there, and everywhere with the camera, which some programmes delight in doing. We could all recommend things they could do differently - but at least they are doing it.

Had the producer/director had not cleverly multi layered the production then he would have ended up with a linear narrative and a film similar to that dreadful Morris feature film [the name escapes me] As for it not containing enough dancing, it wasn't really about dancing, it was trying to explain what the Morris had meant to that particular community and in doing that it defined Morris to me better than I've ever heard it before. Brilliant docco!

I am probably biased, but I agree with "buspassed".
As I was involved with the Adderbury Revival from the beginning, I know what the film is about, and I found it very moving. I have only seen it once, sitting in the back bar at The Bell with many of my friends in the village from both teams.
I think it is a great film and the balance of subject matter is extremely well done.
It is a film that all of Adderbury should be proud of, and goes part way to explain what it is like to live and dance in such a community.

I felt the programme hit a good spot, didn't go anywhere near the cliches that would normally be expected. I would expect that the teams were well pleased with the end result.
