Subject: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: GUEST,your grandchildren Date: 26 Jul 12 - 10:35 PM your beards smell of tobacco and sick and your saggy old arse dirty jeans smell of wee and poo. that old folk music of yours smells like a sack of festering cat diarrhea. Its summer now, get your sounds sorted grandad and learn some Lady Gaga songs. and no, I don't want Sunday dinner at your horrible favourite pensioners pub. I want to see my friends and set fire to old cars under the railway bridge. |
Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: Ole Juul Date: 26 Jul 12 - 11:17 PM With you all the way! However, you give yourself away when you mention "railway bridge". I'm old enough to remember, but they're pretty rare in this century, and younguns probably have never seen one. Who is Lady Gaga anyway? I don't watch opera. |

Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: GUEST,Blandiver Date: 27 Jul 12 - 04:21 AM Lady Gaga is an utterly tedious Madonna clone (who was, God knoweth, tedious enough). In my Young Day we had immediate recompence for such trivia (for me it was Magma and Evan Parker) but today, it seems, we must dig just that little bit deeper. Anyway, we can't get near the Folk Midden for the young who have claimed it as their own, for good or ill (though festering cat diarrhoea seems about right, especially in sessions). I blame all these Mudcat threads about attracting the young to folk clubs (which always sounded like the most perverse sort of grooming) but I hear tell that there are folk families in which kids go straight from Johnny Seven to Melodeon without once screaming at their parents that they didn't ask to be born. So - more likely it will be the bearded old folkies setting fire to cars beneath the arches of the railway bridge (erstwhile or otherwise) if only to keep the chill from their bones, forever singing about how good the old one used to be. Sair Fyeld Hinney! |
Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: GUEST,John I Date: 27 Jul 12 - 04:37 AM OK guys, we need to cut this young chap some slack. It's obviously passed his bedtime and he's tired, also his teddy is still in the corner, where he threw it :) |

Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: Richard Bridge Date: 27 Jul 12 - 05:44 AM I think, in all fairness, that one should point out the smell of the young after a weekend in the mud at a typical British "summer" rock festival - or even smellier but less grubby - one of the very rare truly British SUMMER rock festivals. How I remember the corrugated iron fences around the arena area - rotted right through for about a foot off the ground from blokes pissing on them rather than hold their breath while using one of the fetid portaloos (the few left standing). Folk has absolutely NOTHING on rock festivals for mank. Or skank. And we properly understand the grumpy artform. |

Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: kendall Date: 27 Jul 12 - 06:54 AM This is a good example of why we call folk music "Heavy MENTAL".It takes a mature brain to understand it. By the way, I know many adults that would have to look up "midden" in the dictionary. |

Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: G-Force Date: 27 Jul 12 - 07:10 AM We had a young person turn up at our grumpy old folk club last night. She obviously hadn't a clue what it was all about, still less how to behave, but she sat through two guitar-based songs. Then I got my concertina out and she was out of there. Probably best result for all concerned. |

Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 27 Jul 12 - 08:27 AM Guest, use your brain. You can't set fire to the cars under the railway bridge because someone might be living in them. Judging from your usage or spelling, you are British. So you might not care about the homeless, but keep in mind that there might be PETS hidden in those cars. (Should I type, "Y'all are British" because you claim to be more than one person?) However that may be, your failure to think this through makes my blood run cold. |
Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: GUEST,Blandiver Date: 27 Jul 12 - 08:41 AM In certain regions of UK and USA (since when were American more likely to give care about anyone but themselves, homeless or othewise?) cars would be more likely to be set alight if people were living in them. And not just by kids. Sad but true. But even back in the Depression years of the thirties, Hobos and other vagrants faced the violence of an intolerent society which all migrants (individuals & cultures) have faced over the millenia. Mostly though, people are okay. As ever, exceptions prove rules. |

Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 27 Jul 12 - 12:58 PM Last week I went to a performance by 8 drum & bugle corps, and one corps did a number by Lady Gaga. Surely this is evidence that Lady Gaga is washed up among the young and hip. ========= I realize I'm not supposed to point this out, but the joke has gone on long enough, I think. The original poster is obviously not a young person, because a young person wouldn't write "I want to see my friends and set fire to old cars.." A young person would write "I wnt 2 C my frends & set fire 2 old cars." It's subtle, but it's a dead giveaway. |

Brings back fond memories. |

Subject: RE: folk music is for grumpy stinky old men From: GUEST,999 Date: 27 Jul 12 - 07:50 PM From Grade 9 biology: Cell theory: all cells come from previously existing cells. From wikipedia: The generally accepted parts of modern cell theory include: All known living things are made up of one or more cells. All living cells arise from pre-existing cells by division. The cell is the fundamental unit of structure and function in all living organisms. The activity of an organism depends on the total activity of independent cells. Energy flow (metabolism and biochemistry) occurs within cells. Cells contain hereditary information (DNA) which is passed from cell to cell during cell division. All cells are basically the same in chemical composition in organisms of similar species. |
