Tom Paley's Old Time Moonshine Revue live at Green Note, Camden this Wednesday...

"Tom Paley's new album "Roll On, Roll On,…Tom Paley's Old Time Moonshine Revue" was produced with Dave Morgan (Rockingbirds, The Weather Prophets, The Loft) in St Albans and features guest performances from Jason Steel (The Owl Service), double bass player Jonny Bridgewood (Morrissey, Kathryn Williams), multi instrumentalist Robin Gillan (who has known Tom since his childhood) as well as some wonderful duets with Tom's son Ben Paley. The album is a gorgeous compendium of Old-Time tunes recorded live in the studio with the musicians feeling their way together through informal rehearsal over a number of sessions. This allowed a warmth and bond to grow which shines through in the music."

I finally met Tom last year when he came along to Sharp's when John Roberts and I had a guest booking there. A lovely man and loved his playing. Wish I could be there tonight.

Please give him my regards,
Debra Cowan

Shame I didn't know about this a week ago, I could have added it to the weekly e-mailout I do to the oldtime crowd. It'll miss this week's...

Just in case you do not already know it Tom Paley plays quite a lot in North London. I understand that almost every Sunday night he plays in an old time picking session at the Shakespeare's Head pub by Sadlers Wells theatre. You could check with him to make sure but I have seen him on several occasions over the past couple of years.

And despite his current 'Superstar' status , he is usually at Sharps on a Tuesday evening

Yes he is but nickp's posting and interest is in Old Time American Music which is what Tom and the other guys and girls at The Shakepeare's Head play 90% of the time. It is a session rather than a folk club.
I have always enjoyed my evenings there when I can get along.

Ah, cookied again!

Oldtime... it is indeed although I'm too far away from London to join in on any day let alone Sunday. I rely on info being sent to mailout1(at)foaotmad(dot)org(dot)uk for my news otherwise it's sheer luck if I pick it up on the fly.

Mind you, I hope I'm still able to play at Tom's age!

Nick

I have always enjoyed Tom's artistry, and felt that he was underrated.

Underated? By who? It would appear to me that many people that have made commercial success in the music world acknowledge a debt to Tom Paley. Dylan and Cooder are just two names that come immediately to mind. His guitar and banjo work have been an imspiration to many. Tom's latest disc has been getting much radio coverage too with interviews and appearances on at least three different BBC Radio stations including the Today programme a serious news and current affairs programme on Radio 4 which is every serious Brit's wake up programme six days a week.
