Is it possible to convert side by side 3D video to normal 2D HD, so we can watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony normally on our TV? This is assuming of course that I can transfer the 3D video file from our Humax Freesat box to a PC!

There must be some software out there that can do this.

First, have you actually succeded in getting the HD files off your humax onto PC.

Last time I read into it there was a lot of AV forum chatter
about faffing around with Humax firmware hacks
and using Linux only PCs to over ride the proprietary humax file format & over restrictive copy protection..

So I've now got a full Humax harddrive and got to make some tough decisions about what gets deleted this week.

I cant be arsed transferring via scart in real time to older DVD recorder.

Second, as far as I can see, you'd probably only be able to isolate one side of the 3D pair using editing software on a PC.
then need to expand it to proper widescreen ratio.

But by that point it definitely wont be HD quality anymore.

btw, I'm a lifelong supporter of BBC and license fee
but that was a stupid arrogant wanker decision
to waste such scarce HD bandwidth.

They should have broadcast live in normal 2D
and tried to work out extra bandwidth for a 2nd 3D only channel
for duration of Olympics,
or negotiate extended hours to timeshift the 3D to the early hours
for anyone with a 3D telly to record it.

This made me curious, so I checked up just to make sure I'm not being unfair.

BBC 1 HD and BBC HD broadcast the event simultaneously

but I can find no indication in the Radio times
that one or the other might have been a 3D broadcast ???

Which aint much use for viewers who set timers in advance to record while the were out !!!

Opening and closing ceremonies, men's 100m final and highlights 11pm-midnight daily are being shown in 3D on BBCHD (source RT).
