Subject: Lyr Add: PAMELA BROWN (Tom T Hall) From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Nov 09 - 08:17 PM Found on the Internet and checked against a recording, thanks to Google: PAMELA BROWN Tom T. Hall I'm the guy who didn't marry pretty Pamela Brown, Educated, well-intentioned good girl in our town. I wonder where I'd be today if she had loved me too. Probably be driving kids to school. CHORUS: I guess I owe it all to Pamela Brown: All of my good times and all my roamin' around. One of these days I might come ramblin' through your town, [or "be in"]* And I guess I owe it all to Pamela Brown. I've seen the lights of cities and I've been inside their doors, I've sailed to foreign countries and I've walked upon their shores. I guess the guy she married was the best part of my luck. She dug him 'cause he drove a pickup truck. CHORUS I don't have to tell you just how beautiful she was: Everything it takes to get a country boy in love. [or "guy like me"]* Lord, I hope she's happy 'cause she sure deserves to be, Especially for what she did for me. CHORUS [*Underlined words are those sung by Tom T. Hall; those in brackets are sung by Leo Kottke. Also recorded by Bobby Bare, The Country Gentlemen, Charlie Sizemore, and a few others.] |
Subject: RE: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Date: 12 May 97 - 12:57 PM Charlie. I heard Jud died in a light plane crash but didn't know when. As you say, songs about recent changes seem to get out of date remarkably quickly. I have worked with computers for about 30 years and every time I listen to Stan Rogers sing "White Collar Holler" I figure its time to write an update. But that could be permanent employment. Everyone. Thanks for the answers. I hate to admit it but I don't have a Leo Kottke recording. Time to get one I think. Frank Phillips |
Subject: RE: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Mountain Dog Date: 12 May 97 - 11:02 AM Leo Kottke's original cover version of "Pamela Brown" is on his Ice Water album, available as vinyl reissue from Capitol Records. A great album through and through, it has fine versions of "All Through the Night" and "Born to Be With You" among others. Well worth searching for. |
Subject: RE: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Bob Henrickson Date: 09 May 97 - 12:46 PM Pamela Brown was also recorded by Leo Kottke.I think it was on the album "Essential Leo Kottke" |
Subject: RE: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Charlie Baum Date: 08 May 97 - 12:34 AM The Jud Strunk song that I sometime sing is: Have you ever spent New Year's Eve In Allied Chemical Square It used to be called Times, but times have changed They've taken the Pennsy They've taken the Met They're gonna get Gimbel's and Macy's yet The fans out at the polo grounds have gone to Shea The Dodger's ain't from Flatbush now; they're from L.A. Have you ever spent New Year's Eve In Allied Chemical Square It used to be called Times, but times have changed Have you ever spent New Year's Eve In Allied Chemical Square It used to be called Times, but times have changed What once was Grand Central is Pan Am's big goof There's trains in the cellar and planes on the roof No one's jumping off of or selling bridges today And who would want the Verrazano, anyway Have you ever spent New Year's Eve In Allied Chemical Square It used to be called Times, but times have changed
It's an amazing song, since it's about change and so much of the song is already outdated!
I remember hearing that Jud Strunk was killed many years ago (1970s, I think) in the crash of a small plane. --Charlie Baum

Subject: RE: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Frank Phillips (again) Date: 07 May 97 - 12:53 PM Got it. And found out the original problem. I have access to multiple browsers. I used one but should have used them all until "didn't marry" gave me useful results (as it did eventually.) Thanks again. Frank Phillips |
Subject: RE: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Date: 07 May 97 - 11:44 AM Much thanks Les. When I'm searching that far back in the old carbon based memory banks I don't always know what's a cover and what is the artist's original. I'll try the site you mentioned. Frank Phillips |

Subject: RE: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Les Blank Date: 07 May 97 - 11:21 AM Pamela Brown was written by the old master Tom T. Hall and sung by many !! My favorite (besides Tom T.) is the one done by Leo Kottke !! I'll have to transcribe the lyrics from the CD. Try one of the other sites (Cowpie, etc.) if yopu need them right away. Good Hunting !! Subject: Jud Strunk: I'm the guy(?)who didn't marry.. From: Date: 07 May 97 - 11:10 AM I am pretty sure that Jud Strunk wrote more than just one song but my extensive peregrinations around the Net don't show this. I found the lyrics to "A Daisy a Day" at sites from L.A. (NO not Lethbridge, Alberta I mean the OTHER L.A.) to Poznan Poland. BUT I have this vague memory of a television program from the 70's with Jud singing another song. My best guess at the title is "I'm the Guy (fella?) who Didn't Marry Pamela (Angela?) Brown." I would like to find the lyrics of this song. Indeed any source of information on Jud and his songs would be appreciated, especially on the Net. That way I can find out how I missed them and avoid future harangues like the one that Susan got into over California Dreamin. Thanks Frank Phillips |
