I can't find a backing for a particular song I want to sing [Neath The Southern Moon, Victor Herbert] so I've decided to create one in Sibelius using the sheet music. Anyone else done this?

I've used Sibelius 3 and Sibelius 5 for many years, for notating tunes, composing and arranging and teaching. I've not used it for backing but there's no reason for it not to work. Copying sheet music into Sibelius is a good way to learn the software. It has the reputation for being the 'Industry Standard' or default software for computer notation, but not everyone finds it easy to use. Good luck.
