Subject: Olympic medal for folk music family From: Vic Smith Date: 11 Aug 12 - 10:42 AM Liam Heath son of Lawrence Heath (folk music organiser in the Guildford area for decades now and folk music illustrator and cartoonist - "Frank Ingnobody" etc.) and brother of Lucy Heath (dancer with Morris Offspring amongst others) won a bronze medal today in the Olympics kayak: K2 200m. Liam's partner was Jon Schofield* Hearty congratulations to the pair of them. * Hmm! "Schofield" - no relation to Derek.... or to Nigel, by any chance? |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: Owen Woodson Date: 11 Aug 12 - 10:51 AM I think we can discount the first suggestion. Nobody I know has ever seen Derek break into a sweat. |

Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: GUEST,John Foxen Date: 11 Aug 12 - 11:41 AM Great stuff. Can we expect an F.Ingnobody Olympic cartoon to celebrate this splendid achievement? |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: SteveMansfield Date: 11 Aug 12 - 01:25 PM That's great news, congratulations to them! |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: Surreysinger Date: 11 Aug 12 - 01:47 PM Since Frank is distantly related to Liam, I suspect that in common with the rest of the family he might just be out celebrating at the moment, so Olympic cartoons may be at the back of his mind just now . (PS Vic forgot to mention Liam's mum Linda, who has had quite a bit to do with the organising of folk events with Lawrence !!) Great stuff - I was glued to the set and yelling at the screen. |

Yes - we have a lot to thank the whole Heath family for. |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 12 Aug 12 - 08:26 AM Hey, I remember Lawrence. Played his folk clubs many times. Congrats on the medal Liam, and thanks for your efforts in folk music Lawrence & Linda. |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: GUEST,Tim Slobs Date: 12 Aug 12 - 08:37 AM Very well done Liam! (Did he learn on the Wey, as I did, I wonder)? Anna Gram |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: Surreysinger Date: 12 Aug 12 - 11:36 AM Ah Ms Gram (or should I say Mr Slobs?) - I remember your evening at the Music Institute well. Yes, Liam did train on the Wey .. and is a member of the Wey Kayak Club in Guildford to this day, I believe. They are celebrating there tonight. |

Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: GUEST,George Frampton Date: 23 Aug 16 - 08:07 AM Flirby and I are privileged to say we've known Liam since he was minus 3 months old! It's high time that both Lawrence and Linda achieved recognition other than the 'Bank of Mum and Dad' by way of a BEM (as have my good friends Brian Kell and Alan Castle for services to folk music in their respective regions in recent years). How about a Gold Badge EFDSS? Lawrence Heath: organiser Stagfolk 1970-ish to 1983, other clubs in Guildford to present day, GB ceilidhs at Godalming Borough Hall since 1970-ish to present day; organiser concerts at Guildford Electric Theatre, Farnham Folk Day (with Ian Anderson, 1985?), base line with 'The Southern Rag' with IAA and Caroline Walker, etc etc - all at his own risk and expense. Linda Heath: all the above and 'without whom ...' Also, dancer with Reading Cloggies, chauffeuse for aforementioned Liam Heath and his kayak from contest to competition. I'm sure others will echo those sentiments and add to their CV's. Oh, and longtime mentor for yours truly ... |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: GUEST,George Frampton Date: 23 Aug 16 - 01:23 PM ... oh, and he stumped up the money to found Fleur de Lys morris dancers from Godalming, and began Old Nic's ceilidh club in Guildford with Chrissie Buckley leading an ad hoc band and Brendan Buckley calling - the list goes on! |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: GUEST,Guest, Ed Russell Date: 24 Aug 16 - 11:18 AM George you might like to add the fact that this time around Liam won a gold and a silver. |
Subject: RE: Olympic medal for folk music family From: GUEST,George Frampton Date: 24 Aug 16 - 01:23 PM (thanks, Eddie ... and Ros!) ... and heartfelt congratulations to Liam. You well-deserved it for all your hard work. |
