Thanks for the great reception we received for "Icebound"...and sorry to the 50 or so people...who were turned away as it was a "full house"
Maybe next year??

Fraid I won't be at Whitby but I may try to bring Icebound to me at some point, now I know you're still doing it, just so's I can enjoy it again. I'm social sec of our local sailing club and, whilst they're not all folkies, they enjoy what I've given them so far (Inner State Theatre Co, Hughie Jones, a Victorian Magic Lantern Slideshow of local area) - and would, I'm sure enjoy Icebound - if 'enjoy' is the correct term. They like interesting stuff and they like music ... I've not got masses of ££ though ... but do have a little bit ...

I saw it some years ago at Cleethorpes - probably 97 0r 80. Really enjoyed it then.

Not coming to Whitby until Monday so will miss it this time but I would recommend it to everyone.

Jim Hancock put the whole thing together after discovering the original story, logs and diaries in Stromness museum.   He also wrote all the songs which were then modified and "arranged" by the Roaring Forties. Originally written in 1997, we have performed it at various festivals and folk clubs ,including twice in Stromness(the last time in 2011 after a few years break)    Certainly worth seeing (but then I'm biased!!)
Yes GFC is Grimsby Folk Club

Sounds fab! It's been years since I heard Icebound - I'd certainly recommend and encourage anyone who can, to go and hear it. You'll never moan about being a bit cold or unfomfortable again!

The Roaring Forties will be performing "Icebound" during Whitby Folk Week.
Where?..Brunswick Centre
When? 3pm   this Sunday.
This is the true story of thw whaling ships trapped in the ice of Baffin Bay over the winter of 1836/37.
The story of their tragedy, hardship and heroism is told through a 60 minute performance of 13 original songs, interspersed with readings from the ships' logs and the diaries of the crews.

The performance will be followed by a concert of sea songs, featuring The Roaring Forties,George Unthank,Jim Mageean,She Shanties,Robin Garside and John Conolly.
