Subject: Rock Salt and Nails/Play Us a Waltz From: Janie Date: 20 Aug 12 - 09:36 PM Was listening to some Hazel Dickens on youtube tonight and realized "Play Us A Waltz" written by Charlie Maquire, sounds an awful lot like Utah Phillips "Rock Salt and Nails." Listened to the songs by several different performers, and still came away thinking the similarity in the tunes is too close for comfort. Hazel's recording of Play Us a Waltz Flatt & Scruggs recording of Rock Salt and Nails |
Subject: RE: Rock Salt and Nails/Play Us a Waltz From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 21 Aug 12 - 06:40 AM Too close for comfort? Two excellent songs sharing almost identical melodies. Have you never encountered that before? Im Thinking Tonight of my Blues Eyes / Great Speckled Bird / Honky to nk Angels etc etc. How many writers write original tunes? It's called the folk process.
