Subject: RE: Prince harry's Knob - a song From: gnu Date: 29 Oct 12 - 06:31 PM AL... nope. Not near as good. Yer vocals are the key to the song and yer drowned out by the instrumentals on that one. Yes, they are "better" to an extent, MAYBE?, but they ain't worth shit if I can't HEAR YOUR VOICE. It's the very best of the song... the voice and the lyrics. A combination? a remix? Whatever. It's a fantastic tune that I have sent to hundreds of buddies but I shant forward this latest version. BTW... I am asked by many to comment (privately) because I am just a regular guy that doesn't know Art or what he may think and I don't give two shits from Tuesday about what Art thinks. I dunno Art, I just know what *I* like. And, I like the first one FAR better. My two cents... for aaht it's worth... all of two cents. >;-) In any case, keep on keepin on... yer aces in my books! |

Subject: RE: Prince harry's Knob - a song From: GUEST,Big Al Whittle Date: 29 Oct 12 - 08:34 PM I think I agree Gnu. i was thinking of something a bit more animated - but its turned out bollocks - compared to the first one, i do quite like that in yer face approach can't stand people who write about the wind that shakes the barley, when they're really on about cutting people's throats etc. and the broom growing bonny - when they're on about incest. Anyway not to worry. |

Subject: RE: Prince Harry's Knob - a song From: GUEST Date: 30 Oct 12 - 06:01 PM In the 60's this would have been done by Peter Sellers or Bernard Cribbins [bowdlerised a bit] and been a number 1 What does that tell you about society today ? Ian Gill |
Subject: RE: Prince Harry's Knob - a song From: GUEST,Big Al Whittle Date: 31 Oct 12 - 07:49 AM Performing this and other tradtional folk classics at The Ten Bar, Bridport tonite! |
Subject: RE: Prince Harry's Knob - a song From: Phil Edwards Date: 31 Oct 12 - 07:54 AM can't stand people who write about the wind that shakes the barley, when they're really on about cutting people's throats etc. and the broom growing bonny - when they're on about incest. How does that one go again? It is whispered in the kitchen, it is whispered in the hall some wibble about the local vegetation which you are free to ignore That the king's daughter goes with child to her brother diddly dee, diddly dum, yes that is what I just said Anyone who misses the incest in that one isn't listening. |
Subject: RE: Prince Harry's Knob - a song From: GUEST,Big Al Whittle Date: 31 Oct 12 - 01:16 PM Put it another way. Twenty years ago, I overheard a second year little girl describing to her friends, the visit of the probation officer to her family home in Kirby in Ashfield. 'We wuz all havin' a great time suckin' and fuckin', when that old bitch walked in.' If we carry on expressing ourselves in outmoded and effete language forms, it will be as though our generation never existed. I've seen too many of our generation waste their talents on this. Its the same battle TS Eliot had to fight over our poetry, when Wilde was writing stuff like Helas, and Lionel Johnson was writing the Dark Angel. English is not a dead language. Put it another way - does The Wind that Shakes the Barley and The Foggy Dew express what people felt about the IRA this thirty years. Enniskillen, Warrington, Birmingham - a story an ex-squaddie told me last week about some kind ladies in Belfast who made a birthday cake for 18 year old English soldier filled with powdered glass. |
Subject: RE: Prince Harry's Knob - a song From: gnu Date: 31 Oct 12 - 04:10 PM Yer gettin WAY beyond a discussion of what I would want to be part of with the "glass cake" STORY. "She needs you, T.S., for your autograph... what a laugh." Tull. Maybe I misinterpret, but, I ain't well read nuff to comment further. I just know what I like. |
