For all those who have had enough of hearing it sung at utterly inappropriate occasions (funerals of maiden aunts, grade eight graduations, etc.): Il Duo

HA!
Love it.
I do love the song, but I still believe L.C. wrote it based on how many things he could find to rhyme with "Halleluja".

Although Leonard has said that his favourite version is k.d.lang's, he probably hasn't heard this one.

Thanks, meself. A great send-up of pretentious pop songs which, on being listened to carefully, seem to be about nothing.

Well, I don't think Hallelujah is about nothing - but I think most of the people who sing it think it's about nothing - or at least think it's about something other than what it is about ....

Agreed, meself. It requires actually 1)listening, and 2)thinking. Even then, what you get is what it means to YOU and not necessarily what LC meant to him.

I think even Leonard Cohen has said that the song is overdone and it's time to stop singing it. That won't happen, though, because it gives singers a chance to show off. It's especially good for men, who haven't had anything this "emotive" since "The Impossible Dream".

I do love the song, though.

There is no "definitive" version, that is a matter of taste and preference.

(Personally, I prefer K. D. Lang's version (the complete one), but others may differ).

Definitely not definitive, but a great send-up! Thanks! I'll still enjoy singing the original, though :-). Did it only last week, with a crowd of 80 most of whom probably didn't know what they were singing about.

Yeah, amazing that it gets trotted out so much on religious occasions (particularly old aunts' funerals) when as far as I can see it's mainly about sex.
