There is a low-cost means of shipping media from the UK to the US- It's called a book bag. It's surface mail, which means it can take months to arrive, and most UK shippers don't seem to be aware of it, but it works for bulk media shipments.
    Probably not worthwhile for CDs, but good for books, ehich tn to be heavy.
    Sadly, the US has discontinued this service for US-to-UK shipments.

Imported goods are generally accompanied by a bill of lading or air waybill describing the goods. The goods on the bill of lading and invoice are classified and duty is computed. The amount of this duty is payable immediately, and must be paid before the goods can be imported.

For mailing, you can get paper or lightweight cardstock CD envelopes that might be worth taking a look at. There are a few different styles available with slightly different benefits and shortcomings.

If you want to ship a bulk package with everything in it, it would probably be worthwhile to get a rate comparison from one of the (International) package shippers like FedEx or UPS.

The US postal service has some "special rates" here - one size for one fee for anything that will fit in the box sort of things - that sometimes accomodate some sizes/weights at less cost than more "content specific" packaging, but I don't kow how they're applied for international shipments.

From someone who has had long years of experience with this stuff, I can only point out that it costs one GBPound to ship a jewel case over to the US. Shipping the CDs, inserts and tray cards only is much cheaper and also faster (they go as small packets.)
A slightly better alternative might be to ship the paper only, and have the CDs duped in the US.

Easiest way to determine cost is to take a few samples to the post office and ask them to weigh the samples and from that point you can determine mail costs in various weight brackets and configurations. Take CDs, liner notes and packaging.

I found that mailing in or from Canada was about half the cost if I did not include jewel cases. So, I don't.

I've been told mailing naked CDs with the inserts is less expensive. People can get jewel cases here.

I am having some new CD's made in the UK for an upcoming few gigs, and I also want some to be posted back to the USA for me to have here.
I don't want to have to carry too many them in my luggage on my return.
Can anyone share their experiences of doing this and what is the best and cheapest route. Also, is there any import duty that is payable if one does this sort of thing??
