Subject: Gavin Davenport, Lewes Sat Folk 1st Sept From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 26 Aug 12 - 05:10 AM Gavin Davenport is the guest at Lewes Saturday Folk Club on Saturday 1st. September. Gavin is one of England's finest young singers, rapidly carving a formidable reputation as an interpreter of traditional song. Whether singing solo or with The Albion Band, he possesses a strong and distinctive voice that delivers a story with emotion and intensity. He plays guitar, cittern, mandolin, Anglo concertina and clawhammer banjo as well as singing unaccompanied. He's a delightful and thought-provoking performer. Gavin has performed for the last fifteen years in various guises with acclaimed projects including Crucible, Hekety, GloryStrokes and The Grinder's Misfortune Society as well as guesting with acts from Folk Award nominee James Raynard to Taffy Thomas and Bellowhead. Gavin will give us two forty-five minute sets and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience doing a song or tune if they wish. Entrance is £6 and everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in. We now have a loyalty card. Six visits earn you £5 off an evening when admission is £5 or more.
