Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shave 'Em Dry sung by Lucille Bogan From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 28 Aug 12 - 03:42 PM I could have sworn we had the lyrics here on Mudcat, but my two quick looks with filter failed to turn them up. So here's a site with a set of lyrics. I haven't checked them against the recording though, and I don't have time to do it now, so caveat emptor: Shave 'em Dry. Mick |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shave 'Em Dry sung by Lucille Bogan From: Henry Krinkle Date: 28 Aug 12 - 04:05 PM I was a guest at the Ga. Tech WREK radio station. During the blues program. I gave it to the announcer to play. The phone switchboard lit up! (:-( ))= |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shave 'Em Dry sung by Lucille Bogan From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 28 Aug 12 - 06:35 PM I think it is in the last verse: For working men's two dollars to fit (NOT KISS) my ass and earlier on: Your balls hang down a bell clapper (NOT SAPPER) I think the first person to put these lyrics in print was Paul Oliver in his book "Screening the Blues" where he got verse five wrong hearing 'Heaven' instead of 'Hell' and in the second line: I'll be fucking in the studio just to fuck that to leather instead of 'til the clock strikes eleven. An amusing song by a great singer. Lucille Bogan was one of the best of the female blues artists in my book and teamed with Walter Roland hard to beat. Hoot |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Shave 'Em Dry sung by Lucille Bogan From: Jim Dixon Date: 28 Aug 12 - 08:10 PM The lyrics to SHAVE 'EM DRY are in a thread called "Bawdy music :-)" here: http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=29785#1012250 I found them using the Subject filter on this page: http://mudcat.org/forumsearch.cfm. That's why it's important to put the song title in the subject line when posting lyrics. I hope all our moderators are diligently checking to see that this is done. (They can fix this if the original poster has forgotten to do it.) |
