Subject: Obit: Max Bygraves From: Leadfingers Date: 01 Sep 12 - 06:34 PM Aged 91 , comedian ,singer , actor , and all round nice Guy , at his daughters home in Australia . My Bro and I met Max when he was Top of the Bill at the Hippodrome in Blackpool in 1954 - weonly knew him as a VERY East London voice on the radio , so this VERY smartly dressed chap approaching the stage door where we were Autograph Hunting meant nothing , "Are you in the show?" we asked - "Yes - I sing a bit" replied The Star to these two snotty kids . So we got his rather elaborate autograph , and tried to decipher it , and had to go to the front of the Theatre to confirm it WAS Max B ! Sorry to hear that he had Altzheimers for the last couple of years , and NOT surprised that No One has a bad word to say for him . R I P Max , A REAL Gentleman . |
Subject: RE: Obit: Max Bygraves From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 01 Sep 12 - 06:41 PM A wonderful all-round entertainer, one of the last of the old musical talents of that era. I loved all his songs, but would just like to mention the Toothbrush Song. My schoolchildren adored it, all ages from 6 to 12, and you wouldn't believe the amount of good work I got from them with a promise to play it at the end of the lesson! Lovely man. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Max Bygraves (1922-2012) From: Big Al Whittle Date: 02 Sep 12 - 01:08 PM I loved Max. Used to sing Tulips from Amsterdam in the old peoples homes. When I was little - his songs were a delight - GillGilly Ossenphepper, You're a Pink Toothbrush.... Chelsea Howard at The Ship in Boston used to reckon he was like him. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Max Bygraves (1922-2012) From: fat B****rd Date: 02 Sep 12 - 02:59 PM I remember him in Educating Archie and Tom Brown's Schooldays. Gilly Gilly etc was a singalong with my granddaughters -not that they had a choice - and there can't be many UK baby boomers who don't know many of his singalong songs. RIP Mr. Bygraves. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Max Bygraves (1922-2012) From: Georgiansilver Date: 02 Sep 12 - 05:44 PM n the 1960's I was a cop in Torquay and often had a chat with Max! He used to stop in the early hours of the morning whilst on his way home from shows and chat with me while I was on night duty. He was an amazing character. I also had a few chats with his daughter... but that's another story! |
