He did this song. I always liked it, and it certainly is as meaningful now as when it was a hit. The Games People Play

He was one of only a couple studio musicians who recorded using the legendary Coral Electric Sitar. Here's His NYT Obit My favorite Joe South song was I Never Promised You a Rose Garden

That's a shame. This cracking bit of southern soul/country/rock/Cosmic American music is a stone classic...

Hush

... and infinitely better than Deep Purple's cover version!

These Are Not My People
Walk a Mile in My Shoes
Don't It Make You Want to go Home
Birds of a Feather

are a few others.

A brief career in the limelight, but a good one and lasting contributions to the world of music.

Well, I like both versions. I digitised my Joe South 45rpm of it last year, but I first knew the song because I used to have all the Deep Purple albums up to and including Fireball, and their version was good enough to interest me in the song and to seek out the original, which I probably wouldn't have bothered to do otherwise.

Probably his best song was Games People Play, a truly great song.
