Some that might be appropriate are Bashana Haba'ah; Carry It on; Children of Darkness; Deep Blue Sea; Hymn of Nations; Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream; May There Always Be Sunshine; No More Genocide; Peace in the Valley; Peace Is; Song of Peace (Finlandia); Where Have All the Flowers Gone; and a few more.

Dick and Susan, my apologies for not pointing the poster of this thread to the DigiTrad first!

Anonymous, if you will go to the top of this thread page, righthand corner, you will see a search box for the DigiTrad databse. Enter @peace in the box and hit go. There will be lots of song lyrics that come up. The Dt is BIG part fo teh Mudcat and I am sorry for not pointing thatout before.

Also, many of the songs we've already mentioned should be available in the DT. Either click on the appropriate letter of the alphabet or enter the title in the search box.

Good luck,

katlaughing

There is a beautiful song that the Barra MacNeils, among others, sing called Song For Peace. It was written by Cape Bretoner, Allister MacGillivray.

Subject: Lyr Add: WHITE SNOW OF THE SPRINGTIME
From: McGrath of Harlow
Date: 25 Oct 99 - 02:18 PM

Here;s one I wrote that I sing with the Good Friday Agreement in Ireland in mind.

White Snow of the Springtime

Well it came like some Angel before you could know.
Now the blossom is fallen, it's gone like the snow.
The blossom is fallen, now the white tree is green -
when the summer is over then the fruit will be seen.

White snow of the springtime, new hope once again,
strength to us all, till we meet here as friends,
with hearts joined together, for all that is done -
peace ever after, from here and now on.

Now it's time to remember the lessons we learn
as we walk down this road, on which there's no return.
Skies that are cloudy, the grass that is green,
we carry them with us, those sights we have seen.

White snow of the springtime, new hope once again,
strength to us all, till we meet here as friends,
with hands joined together, for all that is done -
.....peace ever after, from here and now on.

No greater love could a man ever show
than to lay down his dreams for his friends and his foes.
Now and for ever, to stretch out those hands,
peace to the people of these troubled lands
White snow of the springtime, new hope once again,
strength to us all, till we meet here as friends,
with hands joined together, for all that is gone -
peace ever after, from here and now on.

I've got the tune I made for it on my website - click here
If you can't read the dots, or don't like the tune, and would, like to sing it, it'd fit to other tunes, such as Farewell to Tarwathie.

Subject: Lyr Add: HOW CAN IT END? (Peter Nardini)
From: Susanne (skw)
Date: 18 Sep 01 - 04:35 PM

HOW CAN IT END?
(Peter Nardini)

Chorus:
There's a lot of folk sure that the world's goin' tae end
They're saying that's the way it must be
But really I don't want to hear that again
It's scaring the life oot o' me

How can it end, does nobody care
One push of the button, we're up in the air
Mothers and daughters and fathers and sons
Wi' their TVs and cookers, their fridges and phones
A' the young married couples, just startin' off
Oot for a bevvy, havin' a laugh

How can it end, we're a big super power
We've got Kentucky Fried Chicken and pork sweet and sour
Football on the telly and a few cans o' beer
Laughin' and swearin' and fallin' aff the chair
Horses and bingo, takin' a chance
Socials, discos, havin' a dance

How can it end when there's Marlboro to smoke
There's vodka and lime, and there's whisky and coke
And there's fog and there's snow and there's ice and there's rain
And I'm booked next August for two weeks in Spain
How can it end when you've still things to do
How can it end when you don't want it to

I posted the lyrics to "Bashana" ("Soon The Day Will Arrive") under the main Rosh Hashana thread, "L'Shana Tovah."
I am still trying to get the hang of clickies, but maybe someone can post the link here.

Country Joe McDonalds "Fixin to Die Rag." Something poignant about being the "first one on the block to have your boy come home in a box."

thanks for these lists, folks. i've just been asked to perform for a non-violence rally on saturday (it being thursday afternoon now), and i'm in a bit of a tizz.

perhaps dona nobis pacem, and when the round starts to peter out, segue to last night i had the strangest dream. singalongs, both, which cannot help but add to the power of the message.
