Hello All,

Some time ago I heard Louis Killen do a poem about a darts game where the nail that hold the dart board rusts away and the cork falls to the floor. There is in the bar a man of the proper height to balance the board on his head and the contest continues with the expected result. John Roberts told me at a concert recently that the poem is by Ed(?) Pigford. Anyone have it?

Unfortunately I don't have the poem but I did hear Bob Bolam (Newcastle) do a great recitiation of this recently. I think it's called "There's a stain on the floor by the dartboard". In anycase that's one of the recurring lines. Hope this helps jog someone elses memory.

I heard Louis Killen do it at The Press Room sometime in the mid-1980s. At that time he said he had plans to record it. When I saw him 2 years ago at a house concert, I asked him about it and he said he never did get around to recording it, but still hoped to. (He didn't perform it that night nor did he when I saw him again a month ago; "Geordie Nativity" seems to be his recent recitation of choice.)

I could have sworn Louis did record it. I know I heard it on tape, but it might have been a tape my dad made in concert. Lemme see if I can get hold of Pop and find it.

lol All I can remember is..Albert rammed his head under the dartboard, crying "For God, the King, the Country, and All!" ...and Albert standing under the board, mortally wounded, saying through gritted teeth, "come on, Son, FINISH the game!"

Might take me a few days, but I'm sure I can dig up our recording. Don't know who originally wrote it, though.
