Is Chicago near your cerebral cortex? Because I'm pretty sure that Chongo is in your head and nowhere else.

Freeze them! Brilliant. I'll get started on that. Thanks, Monique and Hawk.

They seem able to get into containers that wouldn't leak water if turned upside down. Is there any such thing as a moth-proof container?

A correction I wrote 4lbs 4lbs and4lbs equal amounts. On each plate you should have 4OZ 4OZ 4OZ. My Hay and Lambing barn that I treated was 125 feet long and 40 feet wide with a concrete floor and the cockroaches were under the concrete that's the reason I mixed up such a large batch

Yes, that would do it. By the way, it's Chongo who had the roach infestation, folks, but there are no roaches at my place. He's in Chicago, I'm in Orillia.

Moths: let every bag of flour, rice, raisins etc. (a lot of "etc.") sit in the freezer for some days or more if you have enough room in it.

Chongo if you are talking about Cockroaches I'll guarantee a sure method to eliminate them out of your house and it's cheap. If you have a lot of them then mix up a big enough batch so you can treat your whole house.
4 pounds of Flour
4 Pound of Boric acid
4 Pounds of cocoa

Put an equal amount in a tin pan, plastic. glass or whatever your pans should have a lip to keep your mixture in your pan.Put a pan in each room or closet and I'll guarantee in 2 weeks you will be sweeping them up off of the floor. NO MORE COCKROACHES
(One thing make sure if you have cats or dogs make sure they cannot get into this mixture) Good Luck

I know those moths. Little grey-brown guys. They like nesting and reproducing inside a bag of rice, a box of biscuits, a bag of flour, cereal, anything along that general line. At first you notice the odd one fluttering around the place. Then you notice many of them. The search begins. You have to go through every damn cupboard meticulously and search every possible food source. When you finally find them, you have found the motherlode of moths, and it's a mess! You throw the colony out in the trash. After that it's a question of hunting down the scouts and survivors one by one, and that can take awhile.

What about moths? Boric acid won't work because they don't walk along baseboards. They don't walk at all. They just cling to the wall and flit around the kitchen.

They came with a big bag of rice, like a toy in a cereal box. There were dozens at first, till I discovered the problem and ditched the rice. Now they come out one at a time, volunteering for a daily suicide mission.

They haven't shown any interest in my clothes, just the kitchen. I haven't found any other infested food, but they're small and probably don't eat much. How can I persuade them to leave?

I think yer talkin' about a different Renata, gnu. Are you referrin' to the opera singer?

How do I land "a babe like that"? Well, I guess it is a combination of my debonair style, my chivalric attitude, and my way with guns, fast cars, and liquor. That's how I figger it. They sense danger (along with my undeniable charm), and it attracts 'em.

Well, it is done. The exterminators done a great job here. There was unbelievable numbers of dead roaches layin' around afterward, sorta like dry dead leaves in Autumn, only smaller. We swept 'em up in piles and then stuffed 'em in green garbage bags. I am gonna send them bags of dead roaches by parcel post as contributions to the Obama campaign and the Romney campaign. Ook! Ook! ;-D

Now that I got this roach infestation behind me, it is time to get the lead out for the final stretch, my triumphant run to the White House.

Renata told me last night that given the general situation in the country and in the world, I'd hafta be a bit crazy to even want to be president. I'm not sure if she was jokin' or if she really meant it, but I can sorta see her point. Still, I don't think it would be right for me to just walk away when the country is in crisis. That wouldn't be the honorable thing to do.

In a commune I belonged to in the '70s, our kitchen-dining building was an old farmhouse with a lot of cracks in it. For a while, there was an assigned task of turning on the lights at 3 a.m. and vacuuming them up. There was, of course, conscientious objection to poisoning them, but the spectacle of their coming out at all hours and trying to snatch food off people's plates eventually overcame it. We hired some people who came with tanks on their backs who squirted stuff into the cracks, and out of the cracks tumbled multitudes of cockroaches. Then they swept them together, and on the kitchen floor was a disk of dead cockroaches about a yard across and several inches deep. That was the end of it.

Spare us yer dark fantasies, Rap-man. I spent the night out and am callin' in the professional exterminators today. I'll get some boric acid too, just in case. Boy, this has been a disgustin' episode to go through. I'm convinced the Democrats and Republicans are responsible for it. They're tryin' to derail my campaign.

In the sixties I worked in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for 3 months as a temp auxiliary nurse during student vacations. The Scots call cockroaches 'steam beetles', and they were everywhere, in patients' lockers and even on/in their beds. Thye have a distinctive smell and carry diseases (not the Scots, the roaches) The Steam Beetle Man came to each ward carrying his large torch, but he never made any inroads in the numbers of the things. Fortunately for public health, the hospital was demolished and Edinburgh has a spanking modern Infirmary. In West Africa, cockroaches are called 'kaffars' and are absolutely ENORMOUS. They make a rattling sound as they scuttle along. Grooooo!

Get hold of a single Banana spider and you will never see another roach is your home. They are nocturnal so you won't ever see the spider again. Only get one spider and make sure it's not a pregnant female

I thought of usin' a flamethrower, Rap, but I was worried it might set the whole building on fire, see? Otherwise I woulda used one for sure.

The tommygun scared hell out of 'em, but it didn't actually kill that many, and it made a hell of a mess outta the place, and Mrs McGillicuddy downstairs called the cops. Again! She keeps doin' that. She has it in for me for some reason.

Fortunately, I know a lotta them cops pretty well. I told 'em that I was defendin' myself against another hit attempt by the Northside Gorillas, and I think they bought it, but they was surprised to find no blood or bodies layin' around (aside from the cockroaches). I told 'em the gorillas was a little more cautious than usual, and they all got away.

I am goin' out first thing tomorrow and buyin' a truckload of boric acid. And tonight? I think I'll just stay out all night tonight. No use tryin' to sleep at home under these conditions.

They really are remarkably resilient. In my memory I have not lived in circumstances that required all-out war against cochroaches, but I also have rarely lived in apartment buildings or duplexes.

Mom tells tales of when she was young and I was an infant of marching into neighboring apartments and both raising a ruckus and helping clean out under sinks and pantries to eliminate cockroaches.

Never had a major problem with them myself. Luck of the draw.

I once moved into an apartment where the roaches were so bad they'd run across my plate while I was eating.

Sprays and bombs only got rid of them temporarily. But when I sprinkled boric acid along all the baseboards, that solved it permanently. I never saw another roach in the three years I lived there.

Of course, that doesn't mean there weren't any. Just that I didn't see any. I read a book about roaches that said they avoid people if at all possible, so if you see a roach it means you have so many of them that there are no more places to hide.

And it said a roach can have three thousand offspring per year. And they send the little ones out into your apartment to forage, and when they go back to hide the big ones eat them.

And it said the reason boric acid works so well is because it's an irritant. They get it on their legs and it bothers them so they lick it off. But then it causes gas inside, and they can't fart so their insides explode. And then the big ones in hiding eat them and they get the gas and explode.

Roaches is one on the smartest species on Earth... They been around since T-Rex and will be around after man burns up Earth and is forced to relocate on Mars... But the roaches will still be here... They are the ultimate survivors...

As for ridding them from your house, it can be done... All it requires is a gallon of gas and a match...

The you rebuild you a new house and they be back in a couple of weeks with all their cousins...

Here's a better idea... It's called *coexist-with-a-twist*... You can catch bunches of them if want to... Just leave an empty paint can in the middle of the kitchen with an old bar of soap in it... Roaches love old soap... To collect them there are these cheese cloth strainers for paint that slip right over a paint can... Don't look in the can 'er they will all run out of it... Just come in from the side real low and put that cheese clothe over 'um and then shake 'um into the bag... Now yo have a bag full of tasty roaches ready for the microwave... Unlike corn they pop real fast... I'd say a couple hundred would pop in about 15 seconds... Little butter and a little salt and yer ready for a fun packed evening of popped-roaches, Iron City Beer and "I Love Lucy" reruns on Channel 376...

B~

You try everything at the supermarket and Walmart to kill them and they just lap it up like it's a treat. Then you go to the DIY Pest control store. You spray and they come out in hordes. Scurrying and scampering everywhere. All over the ceiling and plummeting onto you. You scream and run out the front door. When you finally get up the courage to go back in, you see roach corpses everywhere. They're all dead. Except for a few stragglers. You smile big and bravely, knowing in 3 weeks you'll spray again. But there won't be as many next time. It's like fighting the British in at the Battle of New Orleans.
