I hear ya, Elmore. I lost coin last night. I was sure the Pens would win but that was based on a cynical theory and not founded in simply judging the abilities of the teams. My bad.

And now I must cheer for the Hawks... to the bitter end, I fear. I can only hope that Chara and Marchand get drunk and into a fight with each other in a Boston bar and get thrown in jail and can't lace up. Hey, they are both nasty pricks so it COULD happen. When Marchand elbowed Crosby in the jaw last night, that was me you heard screaming at the TV. I know that hockey, real hockey as I learned it without any helmet or pads or gloves, is a rough game but dirty shit like that and hits away from the play just ain't right. Heck, even The Cherry said so last night and he coached Boston. (That was the worst suit he has ever donned... Donned?)

I Love watching sports on tv, except hockey. We recently moved from New England to Georgia and I've been rooting like mad for the Bruins, partially out of home sickness, but mostly because I appreciate the role sports plays in the identity of Boston and want to see the unity that Bostonians have exhibited since the recent terrorist tragedy rewarded. Given the mayhem that occurred, this may seem superficial, but believe me, it's not.

Sooo... one lap into my walk it's a March squall with 25 gusting to 50+ kph. My face was wet with snow and I decided to use the treadmill. Flick on the game. FIRST thing I see is a cross check in the penalty box and a ref 25' away that doesn't know the fuckin rules. I put on a tape of Jay Leno from Feb 15... I don't watch much TV and don't even tape much. And I sure as hell ain't gonna watch any hockey until it's played by the rules.

Anybody else out there sick of the "bully is just part of the game" mentality?

Realignment good news for Detroit Columbus and Dallas. I don't under stand why the FLA teams are in the north east division. They are more natural rivals with us than Montreal and Toronto.

Because of the shorten season there will be lots of back to back games and any team with a hot goaltender will play a hugh part in positioning their team for the playoffs. A team that finished last has a chance.

Ed, I'm not a Leaf fan but I have been watching them closely. They will make the playoffs this year (if management doesn't fuck up by trading key players.)and will get close to the cup in 2014.
Ottawa Bobad, are going to be very interesting in their push. They will be in the playoffs and go a distance. Canadians will miss again by about 6 points.

If the NHL wants a solution to a problem that they created they must start by firing Gary Bettman! If they do not then they can all kiss my arse!
However there is good news for starving hockey fans in that the World Junior Championships will be starting soon. Watch for Nathan MacKinnon on Team Canada. He shares more than just a Nova Scotia hometown with Sidney Crosby and at 17 he is already a potential super-star!

Portland has it's own AHL team and they show the games on TV but only once in awhile. Good thing is, the arena is only about 4 miles from home and tickets are reasonable...

So. When do youse think the NHL will think it has made enough money promoting minor league hockey and get back to playing? I have it on the TV right now. It's good hockey... aside from the fighting but it seems the fans at the game like it.

Do any of you Yanks get any such games on TV? Your local minor league or ours? Very entertaining, except for the fighting but I think that is part of what they are selling with this "strike/lockout".

Yes, I think the whole lot are deking the viewers wholeheartedly. All for money, but if they raise minor hockey up, that might be a good thing... ?

There are rumours going around that the NHLPA are talking about staging a Canada-Russia series during the lockout in celebration of the 40th. anniversary of the '72 series. That would be a perfect move by the Player's Association - stage must see hockey events and make owners squirm.
