Gnu just started a thread called "Mary Jane Lamond vid. New folk warning". But it triggered a thought when I watched the video. I can't pinpoint it right now but I do remember imagining a complete story in my mind about a song and then when You/tube came out it spoiled it all for me. I know, you/tube didn't do the video. It is much like a book. You read it and the story unfolds before your eyes, then you see the flick and it is totally different. This one I remember and it was a movie called "Papillon".
Name some that spoiled it for you. Book or song.

Any of Alistair MacLean's novels that were turned into movies. The movies were always disappointing.

I feel sheepish in saying this, but I have never read any of his novels. I have seen maybe all of them and totally enjoyed them as well. Kind of proves a point I guess.

Hey, Ad, welcome back.

If you read only one of his books, make it "HMS Ulysses." It is the most powerful novel of men and the sea I ever read in my life.

Good point, Beer. I can imagine and have felt exactly what you posted. Matter of fact, I find some of the vidoes I have seen detract from the music when viewed and listened to for the first time simultaneously... BUT, if that is what it takes to put the music out??? (If it is, of course.)

9... HMS Ulysses... yup. I must read it again. Getting older does have it's benefits. >;-)

Don't know about music videos. Often music videos are my first and only opportunities to hear songs I have long heard of, but have not heard. Also always interesting to hear songs I know, even when the arrangement is not what I "think" it should be.

Regarding books and movies, it is rare the movie will match the fantasy world I created in my head when I read the book. 99.9 per cent of the time I will be disappointed in a movie based on a book I have read.

Interesting topic. I would like to think they open our minds up to be more imaginative.

Most music vidoes nowadays like these can also persuade or narrow our thinking too!
