I have put my song 'Emily' onto U Tube myself; It was posted by my dear friend Mike Foster. (Ray Bradshaw Emily on u tube)

I sang this song at the Swan folk club in Addingham last winter.

The air was mildly tense as this is Geoff Wright country!!

However I was made very welcome and would say thank you to all Especially 'Allan The Harp' a wonderful man and a brilliant musician!

Thanks for playing along Allan.

I have forgiven Geoff for his false claims although he has never apologized!

Music is for all to share you just need to say who wrote the song!!

Please enjoy

Best wishes to all

Ray Bradshaw.

it has more lyrics than that - there's a fully credited version here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Yq0ZYQ5nic

It would be a bit difficult to mistakenlyt think you had written this song I think.

It would appear that the person who posted the video made a genuine mistake. However to repost it though now, even with the correct info, would be wrong if, as it appears, the man has been going round claiming it as his anyway.

Wouldn't it be better to have the song up on YouTube with the correct information about who wrote it attached?

There are any amount of songs that get wrongly attributed, often enough by accident.

If I hear a song I've not come across but is clearly a modern one rather than traditional, I am very likely to assume it was written by the person singing it, especially if I know they've written some songs. And then if I sing it I'll very likely say it's that person's song, in all good faith.

Some people have thicker skins than others.
However I gather he is now avoiding areas where his transgression is known......

oh dear, think I would be too ashamed to play in public again if I'd done that. Don't know what the legal implications are, but I'd have thought a public apology is the least he could do if he wanted to maintain any sort of credibility on the folk scene.

Dear all,

I posted the youtube video of the performance by Jeff Wright of Dance Emily Dance. I mistakenly believed the song to have been written by Jeff and credited it to him in good faith, and now discover that this is not the case. I have removed the video from youtube and am sorry for any upset that may have been caused. It is a very beautiful song.

Oscar Wilde once heard something witty and said "I wish I'd said that!" The reply came "You will, Oscar, you will"

Now we have "I wish I'd written that" - "I did, I did"

Hi there,
I was deeply saddened to return from my holiday to find my song 'EMILY' alias dance emily dance being claimed by Jeff wright as his!! I am the brother of Nickie Jerrison (Willis) and sang the song for a gathering at there house in Hebden a few years ago. Jeff Wright was there and in his own word said :-
"That's a belter I have to sing that!"

As a visitor over the last 30yrs to the western front I have written many songs relating to the period of WW1; also a play with a concert party finish! I have performed 'EMILY' and other songs in France as well as here in the UK. It is currently being translated into French by a dear friend of mine who studied music at the Paris conservatoire.
I am currently working my 3rd CD (MY songs exceed 50 in number)and plan to return to singing live very soon!!

I thankyou for the comments on the song and hope that the genuine origins of the song will now become widely known,

My best wishes

Ray Bradshaw. razza1948@hotmail.com

To set the records straight singer/songwriter Ray Bradshaw of Loughborough (our oldest friend) wrote'Emily'(alias Dance Emily Dance) It is on his CD 'Yours and my Time' 2005 but it was written and sung by him for many years before this in the Loughborough area. He is Nicki's brother and he gave her the song to sing. Her husband Vince used to sing with Jeff Wright. I sang this song at Whitby and at the Manifold gathering. Ray has given us permission to sing it as he has been having problems with his voice in recent years and we thought the song should be heard.I have seen Jeffrey Wright's Youtube contribution and when Ray gets back from his house in France he can confirm and answer any queries. Kind Regards to everyone who enjoyed the song. Andrea and Mick Scott.

Jeff does sing it but did not write it, I believe it was written by Nikki Willis's (Jerrison) brother I will try to find out his name

This song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL_c5G4Pyho

"Written and performed by Jeff Wright, with Rowena Morton,Alan Holmes and Bill Adair"

If not...any more information about the song you heard? Some of the words? Perhaps someone else who was at Mumford or Whitby will chime in.

At the Manifold folk gathering last weekend there was some debate about this song which I am sure I heard at Whitby too. It was suggested that someone called Bradshaw had written it. Does anyone know anything about this rather lovely song?
