Subject: RE: Lyr Req: hand-me-down songs From: GUEST,Jenny S Date: 21 Jul 15 - 11:55 AM Oh this is embarrassing - that was me (nearly 3 years ago now!) asking for this. I never got back to the thread due to various unexpected distractions. But to clarify - I heard someone sing this at a festival back in 2011 - I have no idea who the person was, but I do remember that the chorus was something like this: Treasure those songs, those hand-me-down songs ......... ......... And Treasure those hand-me-down songs |

Subject: Lyr Add: HAND-ME-DOWN SONGS (The Gentleman Callers From: Jim Dixon Date: 28 Jul 15 - 11:46 PM Evidently this isn't the song that Jenny S originally requested, but it's the one Maeve suggested back on 19-Sep-2012: HAND-ME-DOWN SONGS As recorded by The Gentleman Callers on "Hand-Me-Down Songs" (2006) Time after the show when I found you in the wings And I told you how I thought you were ev'rything. I meant it at the time; I thought you were the king, And I spent the next two years learnin' how to sing. I wrote some country songs, played 'em ev'ry night In these empty bar rooms underneath the neon lights. When I get too sad, and when I'm wound too tight, I try to tell myself you set me all right. CHORUS: But you burned out your bill(?) for us; you left me in the cold, Wearin' all o' your hand-me-down clothes, And I wish you hadn't made me ever'thing I am today, Just to turn around and walk away. Last time that we spoke, I didn't recognize your tone, But I knew that you were gone and you left me all alone. I could eat the fruit from the trees that you've grown, But then nothin' I make will ever be my own. CHORUS Since you went away, I stand upon my feet, And I'm spittin' out these tired songs … teeth(?), Wearin' down the pain of your sad deceit. Now I'm walkin' through my lonesomeness down these city streets. CHORUS |
