The Beggar's Folk Club . Leeds was in full swing starting in the late 70s and continuing into the late 80s. Then it folded (sadly) and lay dormant up until a couple of years ago when it took on the guise of a radio show on Seaside Radio in East Yorkshire. This lasted only 6 months before folding due to studio time and my availability not being compatible.
Anyway a few months ago I was asked by Withernsea Council to consider running a Folk Club in their new premises (formally a pub) now call The Meridian Centre. I took on the challenge and can now announce the re-birth of The Beggar's Folk Club. which will be on the first Thursday each month at The Meridian Centre. Queen's Street. Withernsea. East Yorkshire. Further details ring 07710049123.
Kevin

First night at The Beggars Folk Club

To experience live music in a pleasant location, and be entertained by talented artistes, is to be envied.. Locally we are blessed that we have the Keyingham Folk Club, and as of Thursday 4th October, we now have our own Withernsea based, Beggars Folk Club, at the Medridian Centre in Queen Street.
Kevin Young of Colleens Fancy, set up and ran the first night with passion and gusto. With many guest singers including the ever popular Morning Dew and Stoney Creek Boys. John Stead did sterling work as the compere, and Shivna Irish Dancers wowed us with their routine.
Nearly 100 people attended the first night of this venture, and sang and clapped along. The Meridian Centre proving to be an ideal location for this venture. Kevan Hough, the Mayor of Withernsea opened proceedings, while committee members ran a raffle.
If you missed this event, the next date on your calendar should be Thursday 1st Nov when Chris Claymore Greve, Celtic/Folk/Pop Singer from Canada will be entertaining us with his performance. The Green Ginger Garland Morris, a ladies folk dance team from Hull will share some of their dances with us. All singers and musicians welcome to perform.
For any more information please phone Andreya Young on 07712417130
