Certainly! This is filling up nicely, but there are places left for day and evening.

In the evening there will be plenty of opportunities to join in tunes, so anyone should feel free to bring an instrument even if they don't want to do a solo spot.

Thanks, Dick. The wording above had to be rather compressed to fit in the space available on the flier I copied it from and finer distinctions had to be cut. I'm sure we'll go into more detail about historic keys and instruments on the day.

I hope we'll hear some old one-row melodeons on the day as they have a splendid punchy, raunchy sound. The newer ones are more subtle and biddable instruments but they can sound a bit polite sometimes.

hope the workshop is a success.
one slight correction, perhaps I misinterpreted your statement, the traditional key in east anglia, was only C, as regards single row melodeons,
the fiddle players played in G D and A, although some tuned the whole fiddle down, when playing WITH C ONE ROWS so that they were playing as if they were in D, But were in actual fact in C.
a number of TWO ROW MELODEON players played GD boxes.
Oscar Woods WAS THE MAIN EXPONENT OF THE c one row melodeon, and more latterly Cyril Barber.
I am fairly sure the Bulwers did not play exclusively in C, but mainly g and d, and I am fairly sure both PERCY BROWN and Font Watling played two row gd melodeons.
Reg Reeder played his Hammered dulcimer in C, so C was used but so was G and D.

Katie & John Howson: EAST ANGLIAN DANCE MUSIC FOR ANY INSTRUMENT

Katie & John have played music from Suffolk & Norfolk for over 30 years, alongside East Anglian traditional legends such as Oscar Woods & Billy Bennington. John founded the Veteran CD label & Katie runs the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust. They were both awarded the EFDSS Gold Badge in 2011. Band work includes the Old Hat Band,
Katie's Quartet & Polkaworks.        
        
Teaching will be by ear & recorders are welcome, but written music will also be available. Any instrument which can play in D & G is welcome; the Suffolk traditional key was C, so if you've something to play in that key bring it as well. We will focus on rhythm & phrasing as well as melody & chords.

The instrumental music of East Anglia features mainly polkas, schottisches, waltzes, & fast hornpipes played for step-dancing.

10.45   Registration & coffee; please order lunch at the bar (refreshments not included)
11.00        An easy polka to get everyone going & a more unusual waltz to open up discussions about accompaniment.
12.30         Lunch
13.30        Time to tackle those fiendishly fast stepdancing hornpipes!
15.00        Tea/coffee break
15.15        Finishing off with some straightforward but lesser-known schottisches.
16.45         Finish
