Subject: Lyr Add: BACKSEAT OF A GREYHOUND BUS From: raredance Date: 23 Sep 12 - 01:21 AM MEAN OLD GREYHOUND BUS by Willie Nelson BACKSEAT OF A GREYHOUND BUS by Sara Evans She wore a dress with cherries on it Going somewhere where she'd be wanted A town this small, all they do is talk No wedding ring chipped fingernail polish She always wished that she could go to college But some dreams fade, they just slip away She started to show a few months ago And she had to go, that's how she wound up On the backseat of a greyhound bus Head hung down with the windows up Staring at the rest of her life She never thought this would be the place Where she would find her saving grace But she fell in love, she fell in love On the backseat of a greyhound bus Oh, yeah, yeah Moon was full the stars were smilin' God has a funny sense of timin' The baby came on the interstate Somewhere between Jackson and Memphis She finally found what she'd been missing She cried and laughed when the red lights flashed Sweet baby girl, she looked into the face of a new, the face of a brand new world On the backseat of a Greyhound bus, Heart so full that it could bust. Starin' at the rest of her life. She never thought this would be the place, Where she would find her savin' grace, But she fell in love; she fell in love, On the backseat of a Greyhound Bus. Sweet baby girl, she found a brand new world On the backseat of a Greyhound bus, Heart so full that it could bust. Starin' at the rest of her life. Subject: RE: Req. Songs about Buses From: GUEST,Guest - Lin Date: 22 Sep 12 - 08:54 PM To: Musicmick: You posted message about "Pity" that I am not including school buses in this search. Perhaps you can post that as a new thread if that interests you, but I am only interested in songs about public transportaton - buses (city buses or Greyhound,). I ride buses almost every day - 6 buses a day, (round trip), five days a week to work. Also have known a few bus drivers as friends over the years who drive city buses, so since I am on buses so much, thought it would be intereting to find songs about public transportation, what we call fixed route buses. Also, when I go out of town, I ride pubic transportation in other cities to get around. Never rode a school bus before - we used to walk to school. Thank you, Lin |

Subject: RE: Req. Songs about Buses From: musicmick Date: 22 Sep 12 - 10:47 AM Sorry to further limit your list but MTA is about an underground trolly line in Boston. Those cars run on tracks (above ground, as they get near Brookline, and below ground, as they near the city). It's a pity you are omitting school bus songs. You could have included Bluebird references like "Hello, Bluebird", "Bluebird of Happiness", "Blue Skies", "Zippidy Doo Dah". |

Subject: RE: Req. Songs about Buses From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 21 Sep 12 - 07:46 PM Hi Jack. I wrote it myself, and as far as I'm concerned, they should never have torn up the tram-lines in the first place. As you can see from the mention of SMTs etc, it's placed quite firmly in its time of writing, namely the late 60s. |

Subject: Lyr Add: EDINBURGH BUS STRIKE BLUES From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 21 Sep 12 - 05:40 PM "A Transport of Delight"! I remember it when it was general. Here's "Edinburgh Bus Strike Blues" They got a bus strike down in Edinburgh, you know the buses they ain't runnin' no more, Yeah, they got a bus strike down in Edinburgh, the buses they ain't runnin' no more, So many people had to walk, never walked in their lives before. I wanted to get a taxi, This is what the man say – You know you can't get a taxi, boy, 'Cos they all hired out today 'Cos they got a bus strike down in Edinburgh, an' the buses they ain't runnin' no more, So many people got to walk, never walked in their lives before. I wanted to get an SMT, I had to walk to the outskirts of town 'Cos if you try an' get one in the middle of town They just turn you down 'Cos they got a bus strike down in Edinburgh, an' buses they ain't runnin' no more, So many people got to walk, never walked in their lives before. Edinburgh Corporation done closed down all the trams An' the suburban trains been closed down too So if the buses ain't runnin' What am I gonna do When they got another bus strike down in Edinburgh, an' the buses they ain't runnin' no more, So many people gonna have to walk, never walked in their lives before. You know you can't go by bus An' you can't go by train; You just got to walk out throughout the drivin' snow An' out through the pourin' rain; You know that was an awful strike When the buses ain't runnin' no more When they used to run about through all the streets An' take you anywhere you wanna go But they got a bus strike down in Edinburgh, you know the buses they ain't runnin' no more, So many people gotta walk, never walked in their lives before. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE KELTIE CLIPPIE (John Watt) From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 21 Sep 12 - 05:21 PM The Keltie Clippie by John Watt (a clippie is a bus conductress) I have travelled roon' this countrie, from shore tae shining shore, Frae the swamps o' Auchterderran tae the jungles o' Lochore, But in all these far flung places there's none that can compare Wi' the Lily o' Lumphinnans, she's ma bonnie Maggie Blair. Oh, she's just a Kelty Clippie, she'll no tak' no advice; It's "Ach drap deid, awa' bile yer heid, Ah'll punch yer ticket twice". Her faither's jist a waister, her mither's on the game, She's jist a Kelty Clippie but I love her just the same. Frae the pyramids up in Kelty tae the mansions in Glencraig, We've trod the bings together in mony's the blythe stravaig, Watche the moonlight over Crosshill, trod Buckhaven's golden sand, And mony's the happy oor we've spent in Lochgelly's Happy Land. Well I met her on the "eight fifteen" that nicht o' romantic bliss, I says "Hey Mag pit doon yer bag and gie's a wee bit kiss". Well she didnae tak' that kindly, no she didnae like ma chaff, And bein' a contrary kind o' lass she says "Come oan - get aff". Noo she hasnae got nae culture, ach she drives me roon' the bend, She sits every nicht in the old arm chair readin' the "People's Friend". Her lapels is fu' o' badges frae Butlins doon at Ayr, And she gangs tae the Bingo every nicht wi' the curlers in her hair. But things is a wee bit better noo, ah've gone and bocht the ring; I won it frae Jim at the Pitch and Toss last nicht at the Lindsay Bing. Wi' her wee black hat and her ticket machine she did ma heart ensnare, She's the Lily o' Lumphinnans, she's ma bonnie Maggie Blair. By John Watt. As printed in "The Scottish Folksinger", collected and edited by Norman Buchan and Peter Hall, Collins, 1973, pp76-77. |
Subject: Lyr Add: THURNSCOE RAIN (Ray Hearne) From: GUEST,henryp Date: 21 Sep 12 - 05:20 PM Thurnscoe Rain by Ray Hearne She is standing at the bus stop down the High Street A broken shopping trolley at her feet She is calling to her kids but they're not listening They are dancing round and round in the Thurnscoe rain She is wondering where the 226 has got to An empty Coal Board wagon soaks her through As if all the years of giving without taking Were culminating in the Thurnscoe rain |
Subject: RE: Req. Songs about Buses From: GUEST,henryp Date: 21 Sep 12 - 05:04 PM Some children's songs From Scotland Ye Cannae Shove Yer Grannie Aff the Bus Oh ye cannae shove yer grannie aff the bus, Oh ye cannae shove yer grannie aff the bus, Ye cannae shove yer grannie For she's yer mammie's mammie, Ye cannae shove yer grannie aff the bus. There's also a cumulative poem by Wilma Horsburgh The Bold Bad Bus Pimpernel Petroleum is a bold, bad bus Who doesn't care for travelling from Glasgow to Luss. "Pop!" goes her engine, "Crunch!" go her gears. Her passengers are sitting with their fingers in their ears. Pimpernel Petroleum loves to make a fuss For Pimpernel Petroleum is a bold, bad bus. It's similar to The Train to Glasgow, another poem by Wilma Horsburgh, set to music by The Singing Kettle - Cilla Fisher and Artie Trezise. They also sing Ye Cannae Shove Your Grannie Aff the Bus. From Wikipedia; Singing To the Bus Driver or Hail To the Bus Driver, an anonymous United States folk song dating to the mid-20th century. It is sung to the tune of the traditional English children's song The More We Get Together, which itself derives from a 1679 Viennese tune by Marx Augustin, Oh du lieber Augustin. Singing to the bus driver, bus driver, bus driver, Singing to the bus driver, bus driver-man. He drinks and he smokes and he tells dirty jokes, Singing to the bus driver, bus driver-man. |
Subject: ADD: The Wheels on the Bus From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Sep 12 - 05:02 PM THE WHEELS ON THE BUS Oh, the wheels on the bus go round and round, Round and round, round and round; The wheels on the bus go round and round, All over town 2. The driver on the bus says, "Move on back." 3. The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish. 4. The lights on the bus go blink, blink, blink. 5. The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep We learned the last line as: "All through the town." Other verses I've heard: The people on the bus go up and down. The babies on the bus go wah, wah, wah! / Mommies on the bus go shh! shh! shh! I don't know what you'd call the name of this very familiar tune. It's almost the tune of "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush,' but that's not it. See Back of the Bus Songs for another version, and other bus songs. |
