Woo hoo, that's fixed it!

Virtual beer / fruit juice / poison of choice to Joe, JohnInKansas, and Ragdall :)

Hi, Steve -
I fiddled with your BS filter settings, and maybe that will fix it (and maybe not). Using Chrome, log out of Mudcat, and then log out again (the second logout deletes the second of two Mudcat cookies). Then log in.

Ragdall's link took me to the beginning of the thread, and it's a rather long thread.

Mixing Topics should take you directly to the appropriate post.

Subject: BS and Music threads - mixed or separate?
From: Joe Offer - PM

On March 3, 2003, we changed the Forum Menu so that all the music threads are at the top of the Forum Menu, and non-music "BS" threads are at the bottom. We did this to give our music threads better exposure.

We realize that not everyone will like this change, so we worked out a solution:
Registered Mudcatters who'd like to have the old "mixed" format on their Forum Menu should go to membership, check the appropriate box toward the bottom of the page, and click the "submit" button. Your cookie will be reset, showing that you have the mixed-format preference.
Jeff also devised a Forum Menu for unregistered people who prefer the mixed format -Here 'tis:

http://www.mudcat.org/threads.cfm?mixbs=yes

Uh, well...it doesn't seem to work any more for me. Jeff says it should work for those who don't have a Mudcat cookie. If you're registered and logged in, your Mudcat cookie overrides it.

The comment about it not working for members already logged in probably refers to the problem that you can't get a new cookie when you already have a mudcat cookie, so you'd likely need to log out, and then log back in and follow the instructions.

I didn't see the box indicated for checking when I looked into that area previously, but may have just missed it - or something may have been updated since 2003(?).

Not sure if this will help? There is a 2003 post by Joe about mixing BS with music topics.

When the 'cat first separated the music threads from BS, a couple of people made comments about finding a way to not list any BS threads at all, or how to mix them all together as Chrome appears to be doing for you.

Unfortunately for you, I was satisfied with the default separation and didn't make any notes, and haven't been able to find one of those threads, or a place at the 'cat to change settings.

It seems likely that any such preferences would be stored on your computer in a "cookie" and it may be possible that logging out (in Chrome) and logging back in (in Chrome) might "eat the offending cookie," if that's actually how the 'cat knows, so that logging back would get you default settings.

For those who use "public computers" like those in libraries, etc., it has been believed that logging out on one computer shouldn't affect being logged in on the one at home when you come back, and it could be that logging off in one browser wouldn't affect the login you have on another browser; but I can't say for sure that you can rely on that.

Maybe a refresh of the thread will make it look like the question is interesting enough that someone with a better memory will respond.

John

Since about the middle of last week all the BS threads have been showing up in the front-page list of MudTopics on Google Chrome - but if I view the front page in Internet Explorer I get the usual BS-free view.

Fully patched Windows 7 32-bit, Chrome up to date at 21.0.1180.89 at the time of writing. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm logged in to MudCat or not.

What's occurring? And, more importantly, how do I get Chrome to give me back my BS-free listing?
