Subject: Book Title test
From: GUEST,Bill Amatneek

I'm working on the 2nd edition of my book and would like to test the working title with Mudcat folks, and ask a couple o' questions. The title: subtitle is,

"Acoustic Stories: Pickin' Bluegrass for Bush, Playing Bass for Belly Dancers, Busking in Paris, and 32 Other Unamplified Tales"

So, the two questions are:
1. To whom do you think "Bush" refers?
2. Do you know what "busking" is (without looking it up, of course)?

Any other reactions/questions/comments would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance to all who respond.
Best regards,
Bill Amatneek

It's a very long subtitle. I suppose Bush refers to George W of that ilk? And I do know what busking is. I wonder if it's used in USA, or is it a Brit word? The alliteration is good. Sounds a very interesting book. Good luck with the 2nd edition!

Bush could be GB or GWB.
Busking, yes.

"busking" seems to me (Southeastern US) to be an east-of-the-Pond term, but it does appear to be gaining a little bit of currency in the U.S. among working musicians. To the general public, I don't think so.
Bush could refer to many, some people, some other things.
Belly dancers, now, I've got that nailed.

Busking: find a good spot in Harvard Square. Take out your axe. Put your hat or your open guitar case on the ground. Start playing the hottest numbers you can play and sing and hope to God you can attract a crowd, who will throw large sums of money(a quarter?) into the hat/case. Before all of this be sure to get a license.

Thanks to all who responded.

Bush is meant to refer to "W", George W. Bush, which is what most but not all people guess. I tried "Pickin' Bluegrass for W" but both my Republican friends missed the reference.

And busking is of course street performing and is originally a British term, I believe. I don't mind if non-folkies don't get "busking" but if folkies miss it as well, ....

Thanks again to all.
Best regards,
BA
