Subject: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: Pete Jennings Date: 29 Sep 12 - 11:15 AM ...from not telling you all that I've just racked up the 180 credits needed for a Masters degree in fine art. You can view the MA Show catalogue here. I'm on pages 116-117. Two years (part-time, allegedly) hard work but I'm well chuffed. Pete PS. Oh, and yes I can draw as well! |

You're right, gnu, I mentioned it yesterday in the "So how is everyone" thread and we had the Private View party last night. Alohol flowed late into the night... |

Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: Pete Jennings Date: 30 Sep 12 - 02:16 PM Geez, given that you normally post as Big Al Whittle, I think your private parts are best left out of it! LOL, Pete. |

Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: JohnInKansas Date: 01 Oct 12 - 11:34 AM Congratulations are well earned and truly in order. "PS. Oh, and yes I can draw as well!" - puts you a full step ahead of Picasso, since he never learned that part and flunked out of the Academy because he was too lazy to try to learn it. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: Pete Jennings Date: 02 Oct 12 - 06:27 AM Wow, JiK, I've never been compared to Picasso before! All I need now is to earn as much as he did!! Pete. |

Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: GUEST,999 Date: 02 Oct 12 - 11:29 AM I once knew his whole name--Pablo, not Pete, although I know Pete's whole name. Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Crispiniano de la Santísima Trinidad. There is much to be said for brevity, so I won't. |
Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: Pete Jennings Date: 02 Oct 12 - 01:56 PM You missed a bit off, 999, it's actually Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso. Almost as big as Guernica! |
Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: GUEST,999 Date: 03 Oct 12 - 06:46 AM Yeah, Pete, that's what I meant. Like, what's wrong with Percival Picasso? I failed high school. Never did graduate. I am always impressed when people who aren't twenty anymore pursue further education. It is tough. I received a B Ed (with distinction) when I was in my late 30s. It made me wish that school had meant more to me when I was younger, because it's easier to stay up until 2:00 AM working on papers, reading and studying when yer younger. I hope the degree is one you're proud of--as you have every right to be. And I hope your headache from the party has subsided and all's right with your world. |
Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: Pete Jennings Date: 03 Oct 12 - 10:08 AM Hangover well subsided now, thanks 999. It was tough - some of the art text books use nigh-on impenetrable language and, worse still, our Professor bases his two semester-long lecture series on Peter Burger's "Theory of the Avant-garde" and Hal Foster's essay (in response to Burger) "What's Neo about the Neo-Avant-Garde?". Whatever you do, don't even think about reading them - they ought to carry a health warning! |
Subject: RE: BS: Immodesty prevents me... From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 Oct 12 - 01:28 PM Peter J All I need now is to earn as much as he did!! ... Maybe you shoulda studied advertising instead of ... Not to worry though, as most of us who manage to put what we've learned to good use are quite prone to wonder later whether adding a bit more, or another credential, might be helpful. My observation has been that it's the later decisions that need more careful study before "taking a leap" than the choice of the first studies. In my field (Science/Engineering) adding an MS in "Management" or "Business Administration" is fairly often considered; but the ones who do it with reasaonable success are those that the engineering community are quite happy to be rid of ... Be proud of what you've done, and see what you can do with it ... first. John |
