Subject: BS: Curmudgeon's Semptieth BD From: Bat Goddess Date: 30 Sep 12 - 07:28 PM Well, the fact that this was the weekend of the 13th Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival and we stayed in Portsmouth (away from a computer) last night, kept me from posting this earlier. Tom's managed to survive another trip around the Sun, and, as Paul Newman said in "Empire Falls", he's "sempty and can do whatever he damn well feels like"... Seventy years ago...here in New Hampshuh. Ayuh. He IS a native! (And a true Yankee...but not a Yankee fan.) Glad I've been with him for almost 33 of those years! Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon's Semptieth BD From: Bat Goddess Date: 02 Oct 12 - 09:07 AM We'll be celebrating for at least a month (that's my usual plan). We're still recovering from the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival this past weekend (and on his actual birthday, Sunday, Sept. 30). A wonderfully gooey ake and ice cream last night... Thank you all for your B.D. greetings! He will thank you himself later today when I can read them to him (or he can read them himself). Tom's eyesight is worse first thing in the morning and after supper. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon's Semptieth BD From: Charley Noble Date: 03 Oct 12 - 01:08 PM Welcome to 70, Tom. I've been feeling a little weird ever since that happened to me last August. I'd rather not be 20 but I'd settle for a re-visit to 40 or even 50! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon's Semptieth BD From: kendall Date: 03 Oct 12 - 02:08 PM Tom, think on this: One should always be drunk, that's all that matters. So as not to feel time's horrible burden that breaks your shoulders and bows you down you must get drunk without ceasing. But what with? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you choose, but get drunk. And if at some time on the steps of a palace, or in the green grass of a ditch, or in the bleak solitude of your room you are waking up when drunkenness is already abated, ask the wind, a wave, the star, the bird, the clock, all that which flees, all that which rolls, all that which groans, all that which sings, all that which speaks, ask them what time it is. And the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock will reply "It is time to get drunk! So that you may not be the slave of time, get drunk, get drunk and never pause for rest. With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you choose." by Boutelier No, I don't know how to spell it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon's Semptieth BD From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Oct 12 - 01:04 PM I HAVE to share the birthday card Tom just got from my sister. (She finds the greatest cards.) Outside it says, "GREAT NEWS on your Birthday -- There's now a pill that reverses aging!" Inside it says, "Bad news: There may be a couple side effects." And the voiceover chip says: "Side effects may include: Fatigue Hair Loss Saggy Bottom Acid Reflux Stiff Neck Creaky Joints Back Pains Bunions Memory Loss Constipation... Other side effects may include: Bug Eyes Excessive talking about your cats New York Accents Kelp Stink The Boogie Woogie Flu Whooping Farts Uncontrolled Need for Crafting Spontaneous Human Combustion Earlobe Cramping and a Fear of Bendy Straws." That one takes the cake...(birthday cake, that is). Linn |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon's Semptieth BD From: John MacKenzie Date: 11 Oct 12 - 01:31 PM I had a birthday last Tuesday, and I was supposed to get a cake, but they forgot it :( |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon's Semptieth BD From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Oct 12 - 01:38 PM John! It's your god-given right to cake!!! I didn't actually bake Tom a cake, but I splurged and bought a doozie at the bakery. Way too much chocolate, a chocolate bomb. Enhanced with ice cream (vanilla), of course, at serving time. That card's got me worried about stuff I never knew existed -- kelp stink...whooping farts. Linn |
