I wasn't aware that Mark had a doctorate. But I'm still a fan of his.

Oh, Google him up, Al...

Oh, never mind... He's kinda the best unknown bluesman of the 50s and 60s... He played harmonica and guitar backwards as he was a leftie and he played drums with his feet...

His sound is very distinct... His harmonica playing is great... He overblows a lot of notes... His voice is also great and you can hear that Jimi Hendrix had heard him sing... He's got the inflection... Blues guys know it... Jimi got it off him...

BTW, he learned his stuff in North Mississippi but moved to Flint, Michigan... Did several tours on Europe... Why he didn't get more acclaim in the States is a complete mystery...

Bluesman James
Oh yeah for a long long time. I first became aware of him after going through Tony "Little Son" Glover ' blues harmonica instruction book Anybody remember Tony Glover of Koerner Glover and Ray? They were from Minnesota Spider John Koerner is still around Dave Ray has passed on. Boogie Disease is a great tune.
PS If you like Dr. Ross, check out Juke-Boy Bonner

Dr. Ross

This is really interesting. The dancing scenes are actually from an Olsen and Johnson film "Hellizapoppin" Slim Gallard and Slam Stewart but it sort of works

The most energetic/acrobatic clips are from Hellzapoppin' but there are clips from maybe three other sources one of which I think comes from a Fats Waller Jukebox short.
It's all good stuff whatever.

We booked him at South Tyne Folk and Blues when he was over here in 1972.
