Corrido de los Hermanos (Two Brothers)
Este es el nuevo corrido
que yo les vengo a cantar
de dos hermanos muy buenos
que tuvieron que pelear.
Uno Juan Luis se llamaba
y el otro José Manuel.
*Comenzaron las discordias
por una mala mujer.
(*y empezaron las discordias)
Llegó Juan Luis a la fiesta
con la mujer que él quería.
Si esto presente lo tengo,
el año treinta corría.
José Manuel llegó al baile
con su guitarra en la mano.
Se sentó cantando versos
como retando a su hermano.
*Oyes, Juan Luis, que te digo, (*Mira)
que esa mujer ya fue mía.
No tengo la culpa, hermano,
eso yo no lo sabía.
*Preparó bien su pistola
José Manuel le echó mano
y de dos tiros mató
a la mujer de su hermano.
(*A su muy buena pistola)
José Manuel lo que has hecho,
Hoy mismo te va a pesar
Mataste lo que quería,
Con tu vida has de pagar.
Se salieron para afuera,
varios balazos sonaron
y en el quicio de una puerta,
los dos hermanos quedaron.

The Ballad of Two Brothers
I've come to sing to you
This new ballad which tells
Of two fine brothers
Who turned against each other.
One was Juan Luis
And the other was José Manuel.
The hatred began
Over a loose woman.
Juan Luis arrived at the party
Accompanied by the woman he loved.
I remember this well;
It happened in the year '30.
José Manuel, guitar in hand,
Arrived later.
He then sat down, singing songs
Which seemed to challenge his brother.
Listen, Juan Luis. I'm going to tell you
That that woman was once mine.
Hey, it's not my fault, brother!
That I didn't know.
José Manuel took out his pistol,
Cocked it and
With two shots
Killed his brother's woman.

First six verses from notebook of Prospero Baca. Robb MS. New Mexico's Digital Collections.
