Subject: RE: List of Fiddlers Tunebooks From: Chris Partington Date: 07 Oct 12 - 12:01 PM Hi Greg, I'm pleased that you've found the very first entry of interest. I predict a lot of late nights for you before you reach the end of the list! It's a reseach tool, the intended outcome is that you now do your own research I'm afraid. I've done mine by getting it this far. As Ebor Fiddler says, try the Lib.Con website, though I must say I don't find it easy to find stuff on there. By and large I've included the information and its source briefly and including accession numbers etc. as far as I know it. If the item is in someone's private collection, they may not want their name broadcast. I hope that people will add further information to the items if they have it or come across it. Cool Beans, thanks for that info, but this particular list is meant to be for historical dance tune manuscripts rather than recently published printed books or web resources, which belong on a different list. The intro to the list doesn't make that very clear though, I will amend it accordingly. |
Subject: RE: List of Fiddlers Tunebooks From: Cool Beans Date: 07 Oct 12 - 10:59 AM Michigan fiddler Bert Stein has composed a bunch of wonderful new but traditional-sounding fiddle tunes--Celtic, Appalachian, klezmer-- and published them in a book available from Elderly Instruments, or directly from Bert online: https://sites.google.com/site/talbertsteinsmusic/ In addition, the guitar chords are printed in large type so your accompanist can read 'em over your shoulder. |

Subject: List of Fiddlers Tunebooks From: Chris Partington Date: 07 Oct 12 - 09:35 AM Those of you who have an interest in old fiddlers and others tunebooks will, I hope, find this recently updated list on Folkopedia interesting. Tune Manuscript List I have no doubt missed one or two :), please let me know if you can point me at others you think should be added, or add them yourself. Of particular interest to me are MSS in facsimile, PDF or ABC notation form. |
