Subject: RE: Carolyn Hester and Davy Graham From: The Sandman Date: 15 Oct 12 - 04:21 PM hoot, you are right, Lisa is the best singer in that clip. Wizz jones might know what happened to her.I think she has died, I thought I read that she had been in a relationship with a guy who had either committed suicide or died of a drug overdose, course i might be remembering wrongly. i recall seeing her a t Downe folk club about 1966 and she was great |
Subject: RE: Carolyn Hester and Davy Graham From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 15 Oct 12 - 07:38 AM Good to see Lisa Turner in one of those clips singing alongside Rory McEwen and Martin Carthy. I always enjoyed Lisa's singing, guitar and banjo playing. She could always play Elizabeth Cotten's "Wilson Rag" far better than I ever achieved. I also admired her for refusing to play and walking off stage when Old King MaColl suggested she shouldn't sing or play American material. And before anyone writes accusing me of starting another MacColl argument, that is not my intention. I am stating a fact, I was there. I have asked here before I believe but does anybody know what happened to Lisa? I lost track of her after 1965. Hoot |

Subject: RE: Carolyn Hester and Davy Graham From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 15 Oct 12 - 05:57 AM I always liked Carolyn Hester and felt that she didn't get the recognition she deserved. How many other people can say that they have played with Bob Dylan, Davey Graham and Buddy Holly? Roger |
Subject: RE: Carolyn Hester and Davy Graham From: Will Fly Date: 15 Oct 12 - 04:22 AM Excellent, Tunesmith! Thanks for that link and for the note about the other DG clips. At last, some filmed record of Davy at the height of his powers, just as I remember him. |
Subject: Carolyn Hester and Davy Graham From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 15 Oct 12 - 03:48 AM I don't know if this Youtube clip of Carolyn Hester and Davy Graham - performing on the UK tv show back in 1963- has been brought to the attention of Mudcatters yet. I've always thought that Dink's Song was very atmospheric. BTw, check out the other clips listed by the same Youtube poster. Carolyn and Davy |
