Subject: Singing in Maine Sat. Oct. 20? (Micca)
From: Celtaddict
Date: 15 Oct 12 - 09:09 PM

Hello, Micca will be heading here next. We plan to head up to the Press Room on Friday, but he has spoken of a chantey sing (?) in Maine on Saturday. I see there was a song circle Oct 6. Is there something up there this Saturday? I am not sure if I am driving home after the Press Room (in which case he needs transport as well as a bed) or staying on for Saturday (in which case I would need a bed too). Is he staying with you, SinSull?

I think the shanty session he's talking about is the one at the Press Room on Saturday.

Maeve, that sounds like great fun. So I am guessing that is what he had more or less in mind when he said Press Room Friday at 4:30 p.m. He definitely was under the impression there were two things. Very mysterious. So I think we will be there on Saturday afternoon, and he may be looking for a ride up to Maine, though I don't know who he was staying with up there. He said, if we went to Press Room Friday afternoon we could drive up to Sinsull's that night to be there Saturday. This may raise the question, is whoever he was hoping to see in/from Maine coming to Portsmouth? I don't mind making things up as I go along but things that involve multistate trips and overnights I would like to have coordinated with the people and events they are supposed to be visiting!

On the Press Room's own site I see this:
"The Great Bay Company performs Celtic classics and sea shanties from 4:30-9 p.m. as they have for over 25 years, no cover.
"http://www.pressroomnh.com/calendar.cfm So that's likely what Micca has in mind regarding Friday?

Perhaps you'd get a quicker reply via PMs to folks like jacqui.c or Sinsull or Batgoddess. Sorry I can't help further.

There ARE two things: regular Fri session and 3rd Saturday shanty session.

Aha! That is just what he is telling me now on FB! I must confess the NH and ME crowds sort of merge in my mind a bit.
Thank you!

So now the only question is, why is he planning to drive (or rather for me to drive him) to Maine between?

Ask Micca? Send PMs as mentioned? I don't think Mudcat-at-large can help with these questions.

Good luck to you both.

Oh, I know that, just sort of thinking out loud when he is not reachable in case some Maine 'Catter had some plans made with him. I'll talk to him tomorrow afternoon. Thank you, Maeve.

Indeed, and I am very much looking forward to the two weeks' worth of activities we are going to squeeze in between this afternoon and Friday at the Press Room.

Regular weekly Friday session at The Press Room starts whenever a quorum is achieved after 4 p.m. Generally gets going between 4-4:30. Best get there early, though, (4-ish) to get a good seat. Session shuts down just before 9 p.m.

Saturday is the regular monthly sea music singaround -- same spot, 3:30-7:30. Slightly different crew and more maritime theme. There's jazz before us, so sometimes it takes a few minutes for them to pack up and for us to rearrange the tables.

Sorry, I'm running late this week -- I'll get the shanty sing announcement up sometime today -- gotta leave here in a few minutes to get Tom to an ultrasound appointment.

Celtaddict, guess we'll recognize you because Micca will be with you. Have we met you before? And Tom can't see well enough to recognize anyone (except people whose voices he knows).

Unfortunately, we're still in a household situation that forecludes putting either of you up. Perhaps Micca figures you'll spend the night at Mary's and then Mary can come down to the Saturday session, too? We haven't seen her in a million years -- she didn't manage to get to the Maritime Festival a couple weeks ago. A few other Portland habitués who have been missing in action, too, for awhile.

BTW, the Friday session has been going on for close to 30 years. I wish The Press Room would verify info with us before posting things on their website. (But they don't.)

Looking forward to Friday and Saturday!

Linn

Look forward to hearing Micca again.

The Press Room session this Saturday will be great fun. I'll be bringing my friend Mike Kennedy from Western New York with me. Mike's been a sound volunteer at the Mystic Sea Music Festival for decades and has adapted several dozen C. Fox Smith poems for singing, in addition to his own original compositions.

Cheerily,

Micca, as I heard it, is going to the Press Room Friday night for a session and then coming to my place. Saturday, he plans to return to the Press Room for the shanty sing. But meantime, TRUBRIT has planned a dinner party at her house for Saturday night. Soooo post Shanty Sing, maybe leaving a bit early, come back to Maine to Deb's for a meal and then to my place for the night?
I can't keep track of him.
SINS, who has beds for Micca and Celtaddict
We always manage to find room at the inn if anyone else is joining us BUT Deb will need a definite head count.
Mary

Sinsull, this sounds awesome. I will be delighted to stay at your place again. I would love to see TruBrit again, too.
Linn, thanks for the scoop. Yes, we have met, I am Janet. For some reason my 'Cat and everyday personae are not as well linked as some folks' are. It will be good to see you and Tom, too!
And Charlie, I will be happy to see you and Mike, too; I will ask him to sing the Currach Song (Cedar and Oak?) as well; love it.

Ah, yes, Janet. AND we've met before (I think at Sinsull's). But I think I "know" you much better on Facebook than at Mudcat. Sometimes it's a bit "fun" (read: a real bitch) trying to get Mudcat names and meat space names linked together.

Micca-

I could bring you back to South Portland but only after the sea music session at the Press Room, 7:30 pm. We could be back in South Portland by 8:30 pm at the latest.

Sounds like Janet will be Micca's ride. I will let Deb know we will be Janet and Micca, Kendall and Jacqui and me for dinner on Saturday. We will sort out who is arriving when.I for one am not passing up one of Tom's excellent meals.
For anyone who reads the news, the ex-mayor of South Portland charged in the Kennebunk Madam case is NOT Tom.
