Subject: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Oct 12 - 04:07 PM Is there likely to be good takeup this year if I do it again? It's quite a lot of hassle so no point in wasting my time if people don't want it. Possible (that's POSSIBLE) dates 25 Nov, 30 Dec, 27 Jan, 24 Feb, BUT NOT 31 Mar. Cor that's a bleeding early Easter. |

Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: GUEST,John from Kemsing Date: 17 Oct 12 - 10:30 AM I certainly enjoyed the last one, such a wide variety of people to hear and great tucker. I will try to make one if "management" will allow me out. |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Girl Friday Date: 17 Oct 12 - 10:41 AM Silly question Mr Bridge..... haven't we all been asking when they are going to be so we can sort out our diaries? |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Oct 12 - 02:56 PM John, please please let me know in advance if you are coming. I am still chagrined that I failed to recognise you or to call you for songs. Others - does anyone see any impediments in the schedule? I will have to re-arrange some family in-between-xmas stuff for the December one but that is so true to the roots of the events that I WILL do it. We should (if all goes well with the refurbishment of the saddleroom and its central fire) not have TV issues, but if there are sporting events that clash with any of the dates, will others please let me know? I don't do sporting. |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: melodeonboy Date: 18 Oct 12 - 04:02 AM "Can we institute a dress code?" Yes, bright shirts (or dresses) only! :-) |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Dead Horse Date: 18 Oct 12 - 04:08 AM And the shirts they played melodeons And the shirts they played melodeons And the shirts they played melodeons, til the dawning of the day. |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Girl Friday Date: 18 Oct 12 - 02:09 PM Can't wait to see melodeonboy in a dress. Can't see a problem with those dates. At least Nov and Dec anyhow . |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Oct 12 - 02:12 PM I think what you meant to say, Sue, was "I DEFINITELY don't want to see Melodeonboy in a dress. Or, even worse, without one". |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: growler Date: 18 Oct 12 - 03:07 PM What about a brightly coloured thong?, Yes I can make two of them |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Dead Horse Date: 19 Oct 12 - 04:23 AM Brightly coloured ones need to be made from very stout material owing to the chemical effect of the dyes upon the cloth, you know. Curiously this effect is confined to the threads that are in horizontal tension (the Warp) and not to those which are in vertical suspension (the Weft). Catastrophic failure of chemically imbalanced materials is liable to result in your thin-thong being turned into a play-a-round and everybody being chucked out of the pub. |

Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Girl Friday Date: 21 Oct 12 - 10:14 AM Think February 24th could pose a problem. Beer Festival at the Lib Club that weekend. I know we'll be organising music for Friday and Saturday.. maybe Sunday too. If it isn't on Sunday, Trevor may be knackered out.Getting Children In Need night out of the way before I start on planning Beer Fest. |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 Oct 12 - 02:04 PM Any views on Feb 17th in stead, since it's not uncommon for a bunch of you sarf lunnoners to come down? The saddleroom may or may not be finished in time - argification with the brewery and a builder has had a stroke, but we will be have our usual room and I have been assured that we can rely on the telly not being turned up even if there is foopball. |

Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: My guru always said Date: 21 Oct 12 - 04:18 PM I've noted 30/12, 27/1 & 17/2 as possibles. 24/2 is Alcester Winter Sing & 25/11 is Bedworth and an event in South Wales. Keeping an eye on this thread for final checks. We will get along one day! Do dresses have to be bright, or just dressy? |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 Oct 12 - 07:04 PM Bright applies only to Melodeonboy's clothing (and not his mind). |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Fossil Date: 21 Oct 12 - 07:04 PM Trying to decipher this thread, I entered the postcode into google and it came up with a road in Rochester, in the district of Lower Stoke, in the county of Kent, UK. Google gives you quite a lot of info about this place and its social and economic outlook... Grain Road, ME3 9RD, the inhabitants of which fall into the ABC1 social category. Grain Road, where there are pubs and fine houses, selling for up to 300,000 UK pounds (quite a lot, really) is an extension of a street called Cuckold's Green Rd (yes, it's true!). Also in ME3 9RD. No wonder they have to dress up for social occasions there! |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 Oct 12 - 07:31 PM Cuckold's Green is the other end of the road (not the other road of the end or the road of the other end). The pub is the Nag's Head in which Hogarth had one of his orgastic weekends. It's in his diaries. Lower Stoke is NOT ABC1. It is a very mixed village (indeed that is largely its charm). There are houses that should go for well over £500,000 but a large element of social housing and quite a lot of single teenage mothers. There are some Asian families and some Afro-Caribbean. Most inhabitants are blue collar or unwaged. There is a nice farmhouse one end of the High Street, and most of the decent houses are on the crescent of Grain Road/Cuckold's Green Road/Allhallows Road. I can think of two houses of age that might go to £750,000 and one less old but with HUGE and vulgar modern extensions and paddocks and that sort of thing that might be in the same price bracket. There is only one remaining pub. The Ship was knocked down some years ago after standing derelict, and very sadly the Rose and Crown (a pub since the 1300s) historically opposite the grade 1 listed Allhallows Church is now also divided into bijoux residencettes with little boxes made of ticky tack in what used to be the carpark. Quite a lot of Lower Stoke dwellings were taken out in the 40s and 50s as unfit for human habitation - no running water and no mains drainage. |

Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: VirginiaTam Date: 23 Oct 12 - 01:28 PM Sorry for thread drift I didn't want to start a thread or ask in the Karen of Good Intent in hospital thread, but does anyone know if there will be a Wassail at the GI and when? I need to book B&B |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: growler Date: 23 Oct 12 - 03:41 PM Can't do first one, as it is Maria's dads 90th, so family party. Believe me, I would rather be anywhere else. In fact, if Kevin turned up in his brightly coloured thong, he would probably have a heart attack and I could afford tp treat everyone to a session |

Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 03 Nov 12 - 05:32 PM Hello again. Is Don's recently announced Vigo event on 30 Nov to 2 Dec an effective conflict, at this season of the year? Is there enough demand to do 25 Nov in Lower Coke and the next weekend in Vigo? Both would call on largely the same pool of musicians. Indeed should I not bother with February either, since it nearly clashes with Sue's Liberal club beer festival, and just run Dec and Jan? |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Abdul The Bul Bul Date: 04 Nov 12 - 02:20 AM I'd only do Lower Stoke anyway as it's my 'team'. Al |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: VirginiaTam Date: 04 Nov 12 - 04:46 AM Given how tenuous the state of health is of late, I cannot possibly offer any enlightenment. If I am able to attend any, I will feel damned fortunate. |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 04 Nov 12 - 05:43 AM Richard, I don't think it will significantly affect the Vigo event, which is looking pretty good now. I will certainly do both if you go ahead with yours and I really wouldn't want to lose any of the winter sings. I always look forward to those Sunday afternoons and seeing friends I don't see enough of in the rest of the year. Don T. BTW, any chance of you and/or RC4 attending at some point for a half hour spot at the Vigo do? Don T. |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 04 Nov 12 - 06:03 AM I will not be doing anymore of the Lower stoke events but having or any other North Kent event. I would like to say that I have enjoyed The Nags over the years. I would like to say farewell to all my friends on the North Kent Folk sceane whome I have shared such excellents times with both socially and musically. Many of whome have themselvess unknown till now been a huge influence to me musicallly. Good bye. please do not respond directly to this posting has the thread is about Lower Stoke not me. Good bye. |
Subject: RE: Lower Stoke Winter sings ME3 9RD UK From: Girl Friday Date: 05 Nov 12 - 12:34 PM Richard.... I'm happy to do both... as long as we are well. Lower Coke is a unique and different event from Lib Club's Beerfest... which w8ill be performance related rather than singaround. Most of the likely performers (judging by last year) don't go to the winter sings. I am not planning to start organizing beerfest music until December. Need to get Children In Need and OFC Xmas party sorted first. Yes please let's have all the sings you planned... unless someone else thinks differently. |
