Ian Hardie - ex Jock Tamson's Bairns, writer of fiddle tunes and a damn fine bloke - died yesterday at the tragically early age of 59.

Like Maeve, I am grateful for Ian's music, but was also privileged to have known him, and played tunes with him on many - but too few - occasions through the 1970s and 80s. He'll be much missed, as a musician, and a true gentleman. My condolences to his family and many friends.

Knew Ian but not well-as a big fan and frequent booker of Jock Tamsons Bairns mainly,though we used also to bump into one another whilst living in the Borders.Loved his music,and he always struck me as a consistently nice man.Very sad day.
