Subject: RE: Tune Req: Within a mile of Dublin From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Oct 12 - 03:09 AM JC's ABC Tune Finder has "Within a mile of Dublin" in various formats, but not banjo tab. Maybe you can find something that will convert one of their formats to banjo tab. The Tune Finder didn't have "Katie." -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Within a mile of Dublin From: Dave Hanson Date: 27 Oct 12 - 03:41 AM Both tunes are in O'Neill's 1001 Gems, The Dance Music of Ireland. Kitty Come Down From Limerick is under the title ' Will You Come Down To Limerick ' Dave H |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Within a mile of Dublin From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Oct 12 - 04:31 AM Here's an excerpt from O'Neill's 1001 and East Clare: A Curious Connection, by Gerard Foley:
I followed Google leads to two copies of The Dance Music of Ireland, O'Neill's 1001 in Google Books, but neither was available for viewing. But persistence paid - click here. Both O'Neill's books have been reprinted by various publishers and are available for a very reasonable price (under $25 a copy) - but they don't have banjo tab (do they have banjo tab for fiddle session tunes?). I know that Mel Bay publishes at least one of the books and Walton's the other. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Within a mile of Dublin From: Dave Hanson Date: 27 Oct 12 - 07:14 AM I missed the bit about banjo tab Joe, I play mandolin and tenor banjo, is it me ? I find standard notation easier to read than tablature, it's simple enough as regards melodies and dance tunes and it applies to most instruments. Dave H |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Within a mile of Dublin From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 27 Oct 12 - 07:21 AM O'Neill's Music of Ireland is on-line as ABC, Noteworthy and MIDI files as well as staff notation at the Old Music Project, among other places. Notations for both tunes should be easy to find on the web, via the tune database, JC's tune finder, the Reverend's ABC tune search etc etc Banjo tab, not likely although there is a guitar tab site out there that has them so who knows. They're simple tunes though and easily picked up by ear. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Within a mile of Dublin From: Dave Hanson Date: 27 Oct 12 - 09:32 AM Barney McKenna recorded both these tunes with The Dubliners, brilliant. Dave H |
