I don't mind Jools Holland as a person or a presenter. My only bug bear with him is the fact his programme is seemingly the only music programme on the tele. There seems to be such an obvious hole in the TV schedule for a decent music programme playing different music, more left field in whatever genre. It's not an expensive format of programme to make, record companies bite hands off to get their bands exposure.

But that's not Jools' fault.

Well, sturgeon, perhaps you could suggest 'a little less of him and a little more of whatever he's presenting'! By the way, my husband's just come in and says he likes Jools. He apparently presented a programme about a group of disabled Congolese street musicians, and treated the subject with dignity and appreciation.

It was frustrating because you heard a few snatches of a song, perked up to listen and it faded out again. A (whole) song by Tommy Steele would have been welcome. Even 'The Old Kent Road' or 'Lambeth Walk' in its entirety would have been enjoyable. He mentioned several times pub singing in the last century, but we heard none of it. I hate bits and pieces of things flying by without concentrating on them for more than a couple of seconds. Is this because the Beeb thinks we have a short attention span? The whole thing was superficial and flippant.

Jools off-screen is nothing like his on-screen persona. I've known him for thirty years and we still often meet up for a pint. Blame the producer not the artiste.

I was a little bit disappointed too. Enjoyed Roy Hudd as always but switched off. I was hoping to catch Joe Brown or Tommy Steel but alas I got tired of Jools going on and on zzzz!

Any excuse to moan about Tosser Holland...

Can't stand his puffed up jolly gentry on screen 'persona'
and squirm in sympathy for the victims of his asinine interview banter...

Wish the the BBC would hurry up and do a 'Mike Harding' on him...

Joe was on the Sounds of London programme. I didn't think the London programme was too bad - some funny clips of Danny Baker, a whole song by Spiers & Boden, some interesting chat at C# House, Roy Hudd on good form. Could have been worse.

I also find JH a little irritating at times. I'm sure he's really an all round decent fella, but I stopped watching "Later" a long time ago...

Nice to see Albert lee, though. Surprised they didn't have Joe Brown on, a great admirer of Dave's banjo playing. Unless he was on before I switched on.

Am I the only one who was fuming last night? I happen to like Chas and Dave very much, and was looking forward to this programme about them and their music. Instead, we had nothing but Jools Holland determined to shove himself in front of the camera at every opportunity, playing badly on several instruments and showing off. He talked and talked (and so did his guest musicians) over the top of every Chas & Dave number. We didn't get to hear more than a few bars of any song. Then his idea of the History of London Music! A bit of this and that, badly chosen and not very representative. Poor Cecil Sharp got about ten seconds. He was obsessed with bells, and his own voice. Hardly any of the music was audible over the top of Mr Holland. What a self-obsessed prat! A nice long programme of simply the songs and music with no commentary at all would've been infinitely better!
