Just read very good article on Sam Lee and Romany singer Freda Black in the Observer - by Ed Vuillamy. On line, there's a little viddy too:

Freda knows "The Bitter Withy" and lots more which can't be bad!

I enjoyed the article when I read it in the paper. I liked the reference to whiplash snakes too.

I enjoyed the article too - and it reminded me that I still have the copy of the Forest School Camps songbook I bought in about 1966...

There was also a short interview with Sam on 6 Music's Radcliffe and Maconie Show yesterday.

It starts at approx 2:23 in.

It's looking good for Sam Lee - I can't recall anything like the volume of pre-publicity for any of the other acts. Mind you, maybe I just don't get out enough. Jude Rogers is on the judging panel and she has sung at Sharp's folk club, so he must have one vote at least.

Here's Sam's "George Collins" vid! I bet Bob Copper would have enjoyed it. Enos White would maybe have liked it too.

I usually haven't a clue what's trendy these days
since I deliberately stopped reading weekend newspaper culture & lifestyle magazines 2 decades ago...

So this thread is the first I've ever heard of Sam Lee.

From the little I've just listened to I really like his voice;

but that "George Collins" video...

oh for f@cks sake... is it serious.. is he taking the piss ???

He looks a complete twat.

"The video features some incredible contemporary dance choreography
which heightens this dark pagan tale of water sprites
and those that cross beyond that threshold for those sweet ruby lips…
Sam revised the song with burning nightclubs in mind."

yep.. reminds me why I loathe middle class tosser 'Arts' journalism..
