Did Kim K start out with a lot of money? Or did she work her way up from rags to riches? How does she make this $18 million? Doing what, exactly? Does she just have to "show up" to get paid?

There used to be a TV show called "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous". I always thought in all fairness that they should have done a companion show called "Lifestyles of the Down and Out" to balance it, but I guess people might have found it a little depressing. Still, it seems a shame that so little attention is given to the "unimportant" (cashless) in our society, if you see what I mean...

Well, it's nice to hear an impassioned defense of Honey Boo Boo (and Georgia) from someone, Henry. Your point about racial do's and don'ts in present day society is, of course, quite accurate. Certain prejudices are considered allowable in any given pecking order and others aren't. This is generally determined by those at the top of the pecking order. You just have to know and follow the official rules in order to get along with them.

In Nazi Germany, for example, you could criticize Jews, Gypsies, Leftists, and Slavs all you wanted, but don't TOUCH Aryans! These things come and go as the pecking order changes.

It's simple. You just act like yer famous. If ya do it with enough nerve (and a few friends in the right places), a lotta people will notice you...and after awhile you ARE famous. Then you cash in. A lotta people will love you (or think they do) and a lot more will probably hate you, but it don't matter. The stronger their emotions are about how much they love you...or hate you...the more famous you get. People like saulgoldie will start threads suggestin' you should be ignored, but will unwittingly only ADD to yer ever-increasin' notoriety! It's a self-amplifyin' process, sorta like feedback, which eventually spirals into an ear-splittin' screech that numbs the senses. When that happens, you KNOW yer famous! ;-D Ook! Ook!

I been teeterin' on the threshold of such fame for a few years now. Just a few more outrageous statements and annoyin' acts should suffice to get me there.

When I was young and handsome I wasn't particularly famous, although I helped with and did some things that made life easier for others (or I like to think so).

Now that I'm no longer as young as I was back then I'm beginning to suspect that I'm never going to be famous or even infamous. Maybe I'll work at the latter.

When did "being famous just for being famous" come into being? It used to be that one because famous for starring in a movie, or having a hit song, or making a discovery which could eradicate a nasty disease, or something equally worthwhile.......but this modern phenomenon of being famous for doing nothing to deserve it baffles me.

I manage to ignore these people most of the time, but they are so "in your face!"--or at least in mine. Even the news programs cover them, which I think is sad. Surely there must be enough real news, every day, not to have to tell us about these people.

Sadly, sometimes a voice inside my head tells me that I should do something that attracts the press and makes me famous and rich for, well, essentially nothing that should be worth notice.
